So do you guys suggest I ask for the “damaged “ rack and pinion unit back after they remove it to install the new one? Any reason to do that?
It would be good to ask, but usually the rebuilt unit manufacturer will need the old unit back for a core charge.

It's unfortunate you're not near to me.
I'm confident it would be a warranty replacement at a friends dealership, and under a $1,500 donation to his favorite charity ;)

@Dave Haddon, that really is crappy that they call it 50/50, I hope you get it fixed properly and completely.

Best thing I can say is invest in a good quality dash cam. I have one, but am looking for one that has a more realistic field of view. Mine has a wide field of view, but it make it seem like the cars in front of you are farther away.

So, I am still looking.

Keep us informed of your progress.
I did a lot of research and asked several questions of people with dash cams before investing in my current set up.

I ended up going with the Thinkware U3000 front and rear set up, and had it all professionally wired in, too. I also upped the storage to a 256GB Thinkware microSD card as well.

Great functionality and clear, crisp imaging.

I will have to check that out.

That perspective thing is what I dislike the most with my present one.

I wish I could just change the lens.

I had to use my footage in court in the great state of Virginia. An officer came around with the judge to view the video on my laptop and the officer told me my cam was better than his
All this to say, a dash cam isn't an area you want to go cheap - get a good one - you just never know!

Agreed on investing in a good set up, and go front & rear, too.
And get the largest memory card the camera can accept.

Wired in is also better than a plug in one with wires tucked all over the place (just my opinion though).

Agreed. Mine is wired directly to the fuse box to allow Parking Mode which would begin recording if an impact is detected while I'm parked. I'm sure we're all familiar with Walmarts parking lot or malls during the holidays  .
We should also mention not all microSDXC cards are created equal. Go name brand!
GPS is fantastic, too! Mine will bring a map up beside the video when I play it so you can follow along on the road.

Also agreed on the MicroSD cards... I went with the Thinkware 256BG card.
Too many issues with others, even brand name ones.

Plus the camera manufacturers tend to give headaches if you don't have their cards in their cameras. Best to avoid any possibility of BS in case one ever has to get warranty and/or technical support from the OEM.

Means your insurance company is getting rich, lol. Easiest way to explain it,is if you google No Fault Insurance in Saskatchewan, you can also google SGI which is Saskatchewan Government Insurance.they used to be an okay insurance provider years ago,now not so much

This is why all my vehicles only have liability. even my 18 JK, and between all 4 of my vehicles I save 4500$ a year by doing that.

Ive been in AB for 7 years now. Thats a lot of cash in my pocket at this point.

Ive had to many friend over the year get the short end of the stick even with full coverage.

Yep just got their (SGI) their same reply "scenario is PLAUSIBLE"..what the H does that mean when on one side of the ledger you have just a statement without validation"I I thought it was green and I was late for class"..vs Traffic Engineers information of Traffic Flow and timing,$11,800 damage...obviously not from a stiopped at a light position, (PHYSICS)..line of sight of 2 sets of lights confusion to the other party...yep that evens out to 50/50 responsibility. Think I will talk to some media and see if I can get air time. This must happen to others...Insurance sompanies one big Mafia...split everything..easy way out!
Yep wish I did live close $3800 is a chunk of change and add in the $2199 rental charge while WARLOCK was getting fixed.
OH and on the point of getting the"damaged R&P" back..no joy they keep it to do what I was going to do...grrrrrr

Just told need R&P replacement from accident… almost 4K …is that true?
Or is someone playing games?
Did you specify the solid gold one? :)

I put one on my truck a couple of years ago - $300 from Car Parts for a rebuilt one that included inner tie rod ends. Then I had to have it aligned of course. Took less than an hour to install.

Thanks guys and yep that looks like the part. Certainly will not be doing repairs as SGI are saying 50/50.. l have info just received from Traffic Light Engineer supporting my advanced Green Arrow and then kid saying he was “late for class”..will see if SGI has a clue about evidence.. so far they say Sticking to 50/50i.. if stopped at Red how can a little compact car do over $9600 damage to a 4x4 and move it 2-3 ft sideways in what 16 ft.. while other 2 lanes beside him don’t move.. hmmm
Maybe the same idiot , but he was older 30's, that destroyed mine with a little chev pos car.
He was charged, but got off because the officer in charge of the case could not be bothered to show up in court 3 times. Saskatoon P.O.
I was stopped at street repair flagman, on Circle S.
He never seen me, no brakes at 100km.

I did get a very good payout from SGI for my 2010 Laramie in 2015

PS, this was many yrs ago, but I had a little fender bender with my old winter beater that was worth 1000-1200. SGI wrote it off, as its old and not worth fixing, so they valued it my insurance premium at 300.00 or and wanted the salvage.
I said no , I would take the cash and the wreck ( just grill and fender damage) or $1000.oo
They said no, sign here, Not a chance, so I went home. a Month later they wanted the case closed , so I got the car and 250.oo and signed off on it.

It may be different now, but if I did not sign off on it the case stayed open, they don't like open cases.
BTW for you others out there , you plate anything on Sask. , it has to have full insurance, unless its a old collector car

My truck is 2014, was new, The honda CRV is 2008 ,was also new, The insurance cost are still the same price as when they where new.
Good luck Dave.
