I have a 2019 RAM Classic. How much of a theft target is it, statistically? What aftermarket anti theft systems provide the best performance per dollar spent? Thanks all.

Your vehicle insurance agent should be able to provide you with theft statistics.

Not sure of aftermarket anti-theft systems.

JW2 builds a plug-n-play kill switch for the trucks

I am about to retire and my income will drop significantly. I am scrutinizing every expense, and cutting back wherever I can. Auto insurance, house insurance, anything, everything.

My goal is to become more self insured across the board because rates continue to soar. I understand nothing will "theft proof" my truck, but make it much more difficult. Low tech might be best.

See #1 and #2.

Those and one of JW's kill switches will go along ways towards keeping the joy riders at bay.

Tip start is far less attractive to would be thieves.
Environment / geography plays a huge part in ones vehicle being a target as well.
Having a tracking system and kill system as well is supper important, plus the visual deterrent of a wheel/pedal lock system, too.
Combined with a high end security system that a real professional installs (not just connected to the factory horn where the thief typically gets the hood open and cuts the horn wires..lol).

I so wish we could employ the use of these systems in todays world:

Jeff @JW2 Innovations makes the No splice kill switch harness but AFAIK, it only fits on a trucks with the push button start system.

Correction, the page below says it works for key FOB start trucks too.

Bravo Jeff.

I've had one installed for a long time and although I live in the country, I sleep better knowing my ignition is bypassed.

Having this device installed in my truck also gives me a considerable piece of mind whenever I visit the big city for supplies or park in the city at a friend's at night.

The price makes it a no-brainer decision and Jeff is very helpful if you require any guidance during the installation.

I have plans to also get a club from Amazon because that's a red flag to many thieves. It's much easier to choose a vehicle without.

A CLUB keeps joy riders away
Getting into any american made vehicle is easy
a wood wedge or air bag & flexible rod gets anyone in
Freeze the lock on a CLUB & a hammer gets rid of the club

No Joy Riders will go through all that .....
BUT it will slow everyone down

Keep your FOB in a GOOD RFID Signal Blocker, also called a FARADAY CAGE,

The Spare FOB, should have the Battery removed

Thieves have a device that somehow fools FOBs, their device can imitate a FOB & therefore Unlock & Start your vehicle.

I have started doing something simple, but my Ram is older & no one wants to steal a vehicle its age for Stripping.
I can NOT remote Start my Ram, when i do this simple thing

I have to insert my FOB into the ignition to start it.
Most Rams today have one of those SMART FOBs, that never leave your pocket or purse

Thieves have a stronger version of this signal grabber / repeater

Seems RAM can't sell their trucks and thieves don't steal them anymore. Both the F150 and the GM twins are in the top ten stolen vehicle list but RAM is nowhere in sight.

Possibly having a 9 year old truck reduces the possibility of theft or the situation is different in your area.

I used to often read about thefts of any recent model of Ram trucks and Lexus SUVs being stolen in Ottawa, too many incidents for my liking.

I'm happy to have Jeff's No splice kill switch harness installed.

Theft rate is going to depend on your location. It's not like a Ram truck is a highly sought after vehicle but if you live in an area of high theft people will steal anything I suppose.....

See #1 and #2.
Any protection is better than none, whether you decide to buy one of my solutions or not. We each have to determine our own risk per what we drive, where/how we park it, and our theft risk where we live and drive to. Bottom line is if someone REALLY wants your ride, they'll bring a tow truck (or similar).

And I hear you on making the spend count!

But there are some basics you can do for low cost that will help deter a thief.
1. Where you park is a big one, garage is best when all locked up (ok, if you don't have one this won't be low cost to add one :) ). Don't think because you "block it in" with another vehicle they won't go after it. Especially if it's a high theft target. Plenty of video's out there showing how they get them out of those impregnable setups.
2. Said here already, but keep your keys in something that blocks the signal when you aren't driving. They make cheap solutions for in the house and on your person.
3. Steering wheel lock, peddle locks (keep from depressing), etc are options - but realistically by seeing them they'll just come back with a hack saw and 30 seconds later it's removed - but you added more time to their theft script and that's not what they want. Move to easier target? Maybe, depends on what you drive I think (how new, theft rating, how nice, etc).
4. Kill switch for ignition, starter, fuel pump, etc. Depends on your preference which one/two to do. You can also combine some of these approaches with physical and remote controlled. Happy to share what you're thinking about to make this possible. Have done some custom solutions that are rather creative from previous owners like yourself.
5. Security alarm - Maybe look at other options to enhance what you have built in already. If Ram 1500 definitely relocate those darned horns! Somewhere on here is a recent effort to do just that - and make them louder! You can add tilt, shock, break glass, and proximity to your existing alarm system. OR you can add another alarm system to your vehicle and have another FOB/Remote for it. Your choice, I like the idea of enhancing what I have and keep the keyring at a min.

How they are approaching stealing your vehicle:
1. Relay your own/OEM FOB signal so your vehicle thinks you are standing outside close to the vehicle to let you open the door, start your car, and drive off with it! Keep your FOB in a faraday device when not driving and this one goes away.
2. OBD2 port below your knees in drivers dash. Thief plugs into it with device/OBD2 plug to ADD another FOB to your vehicle, which they then use to start your car and drive away. They disconnect your horn so alarm goes off when they break in, but only lights are flashing until they get new FOB working and drive away. Fake OBD2 harness will keep them from talking to your vehicles computer, and kill switch will keep them from starting your vehicle if they hack directly into your CAN Bus to program the new FOB (whether via OBD2 or otherwise). CAN Bus itself is a completely different discussion overall TBH, and there a LOT of scare tactics out there going on TBH. There are some solutions to help address it ($$$$), but there are also some things coming (beta already out there) that will give the thieves a way to make even more progress in stealing our vehicles by bypassing what's currently out there today unfortunately. So I don't give away any details to aid in that. So I'll stop there.

I hope this helps someone make good choices for their situation/risk. Whether you buy one of my harness solutions or some other combination - do something (layers are always best) to keep your vehicle right where you left it!

Thank you all for the great suggestions. The good thing for me is that we keep it garaged, and we only drive it 2-3 times per month. Its kind of a "garage queen" they say. I think statistically the chances are very low because its sitting in the garage 27 of 30 days a month. It only takes one time though, and we do drive into Houston but in relativly safe areas.
