The first picture is what the Ram web page showed earlier this year. Not sure when the change was made.

The second picture shows the current information.

So did RAM really intend to mislead and now are making up for it...................ahem:confused:

No. They have made it better. They originally used the charts and had a disclaimer.

Now they are attempting to show for each trim rather than use the generic numbers.

Every single truck will be different. No possible way to nail the configurator.

But this will definitely get people much closer.

A member at 5thGenRams did file and win a lawsuit about the oversite.

This will hopefully limit the number of why can I nit tow this 12000 lb camper with my fully loaded limited.

No slight of hand, here's a screenshot from while I'm typing a response. As mentioned, there's a nice increase in the payload difference between the Classic (4G) and 5G trucks. It was a known weakness in the 4G trucks and having a 1000 # payload wasn't exactly a selling point on a well equipped ecoD truck or a 1100# payload on a well equipped 4x4 hemi truck.

Okay, appreciate the responses. The one that says classic has a picture of a 5th gen. So I was interpreting it as a 5th gen. Forgetting for the moment that it may be labelled wrong. The numbers appear to be valid to me.

My point was simply that the web page at some point in time had erroneous info for 2019 Rams. And that now they seem to have corrected it.

As to "A member at 5thGenRams did file and win a lawsuit about the oversite." I tried to find that post and could not. If anyone has the link I would appreciate seeing it.

Thanks and have fun!

Those numbers are not correct. I can guarantee you there is no 2020 0r 2019 Ram Laramie 4X4 Hemi that has a payload of 1790 or 1840. That was apparently what RAM finally corrected.

It is not the tow capacity at issue it is the payload. And just FYI there are lots of RV trailers that approach and exceed those numbers. Hopefully not pulled by 1500s :)

We can not link to there from here. It is in a few threads. Mainly the tire and loading sticker thread. Go to the 5th Gen site and message me there. DevilDodge

The picture you posted here is clearly a 5th Gen in the one and a 4th Gen classic in the other

Please excuse my ignorance, but what makes the 4th gen/classic payload ratings so weak? And what has changed with the new trucks?

4th Gen 2wd had 6700 GVWR and 4wd 6900 GVWR

The 5th Gen got 6lug axles and bigger brakes.
2wd has 6900 GVWR 4wd has 7100 GVWR

So the 5th Gen is 200lbs more capable.

There are limited 5th gens with RamBox MFT and pano sunroof that have just 900lbs payload.

These trucks are heavy.

Tradesman can have upto 2300lbs though.

@XxSunDevilsAZxX the op post is deceiving.

A similarly equiped 4th Gen and a 5th Gen will have 200lbs difference

The 1840 and 1330 are because of 2 different rating systems.

The actual numbers would be 1330 4th Gen and 1500 ish for 5th Gen. Some of thr 5th Gen options are heavier than thr 4th gen

One of the things I really appreciated about RAM was that they make it easy to look up towing capacity by VIN. That way when you are looking at a truck whether new or used, it is VERY easy to figure out the towing capacity for that particular vehicle. For other brands it would take me forever looking at charts and feature cross-references to try to figure it out and was never sure I was right. With this, it was very easy for me to look for RAM trucks online and determine if they would do the job.
