So I was reviewing pictures of the ram TRX ******* after a new truck when I noticed that the TRX has the 8-speed and a floor shifter.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Could this be a possible conversion to get rid of the damn rotary knob?

I'm curious if anyone else has spied this and has had the same thoughts

Thanks

Could be as evidenced by the switch back to a traditional shifter in several vehicles across the lineup. Its not a deal breaker one way or the other for me but I would say most people would rather have a regular console shifter or even a column shifter than the knob.

If you could do the 8spd swap that sound German engineering offers and use the electronics from the new console shifter, or the shifter itself inside the older console, that would be awesome.

Wait until the first one is totaled by some kid and then we can pick it apart at the junk yard :)

Always happens. My kid is getting a car that doesn’t run at 14, then I will build it with him until he is 16. He might respect it then.

I really liked the way the console shifter felt and looked, but do like the rotary knob being out of the way and allowing for more use of the console space. As with most cases, it's preference but I don't think I'd throw out the dollars to reduce the functionality of my console. Now, if I could get the TRX engine and tranny as well as the console; that may be worth the switch!

Did anybody catch the paddle shifters in the "Sandman" TRX video?
Its at 1:23

What a time we live in where you can buy a factory supercharged, 702hp, paddle shifted truck right off of the showroom floor!

Yes it is going to have a stupid console shifter. They belong in a car or an SUV.

The dial was one of the best things they have done. It's compact and out of the way.

If I've got a center consol I'm fine with having a console shifter if it's got a great feel, bonus if it functions well.

Most console knobs or levers end up where I'm leaning my arm to look back when maneuvering, so one hands on the shifter and the other is on the wheel.

When I don't have a console column shifter is fine. Unless I'm trying to pry the center stack apart I don't see much advantage of the dash dial over the column shift, both are a quick reach without a glance.

My wife's SUV has paddle shifters. Never use them. Sure, they seem like they'd be fun, but if I truly wanted fun I'd get a standard transmission. Let the auto-trans do it's job. And, I could care less where the shifter is. They all do the same now no matter where they are located, by just sending an electrical signal to the trans to do what you ask it to do. Personally, I think the Ford 2021 shifter is stupid. Just move it out of the way perminantly. One of the many reasons I decided on RAM in my current truck.

Watching the 2021 Ford F-150 one fold to get out of the way of the console opening hurts my eyes.
From what I saw it's not folding to get out of the way of the console opening, it folds down so you can fold the console forward to create a solid work surface for people that work out of their trucks. It's much easier to work on a computer a little further forward than on top of where the console lid is. I think it's an interesting design, though not something I need personally. The console should open as normal for storage with the shifter in it's normal position.
