They were well ahead of their time back in the 50's and 60's
They started a mopar craze that has been around ever since.

In the early 2000s, Some of the guys I knew in the RPM club in Denver in the ( Rockymountain Performance Mopar ) ran a lot of Burton components on their SS and SS modified class cars. It was always a fun day at the races at Bandimere.

Saw Hemi Under Glass run out here at MATS a few years back. A lot of drag racing legends were there that year. I usually get tickets just to watch em run. Park the old dart in the fun field and head for the stands.

You ever run the old gal to see what the little 273 would do?

We're starting to talk like old folks from our day about horse buggies. Hell, that's not even a good analogy as the Amish still drive those.

In today's paper, Peugeot-Fiat (aka "Stellantis, whatever that's supposed to mean) announced closing the Jeep Cherokee Plant in Belvidere, Illinois and sticking a new EV into their Windsor Ontario Plant instead.
Belvidere Plant is 60 years old.
Paper said current union contracts were the issue. Global corporate race to the bottom continuing.

the year I tried it wouldn't pass tech. I put a radiator overflow on it after that ( reason it failed) , but never attempted to do it the following years.

Maybe I'll be able to put the new clutch in before MATS rolls around this year. Definitely will at some point. Will swap the 355s back in if I do. Have 4 pigs for it.

A few pics of some of the fun.

Coming back around again to the Ramchargers. This site has changed a lot over they years. I recall they were selling bowtie and oval speed stuff at one point. Glad to see it is back on track.

About the only thing that could get me to trade in my Power Wagon...
I had a 78 Ramcharger SE with a 360 4bbl back about 1990. I swear that thing could climb just about anything. Convertible to boot.

Had a full carpet kit in the back. I would hrow a matress in it for camping. Was a fun ride, for sure.

They just do not make em like that anymore.

CAVEAT: I had a 84 Jeep Cherokee with AWD and a 304 under the hood with good tires. That thing went anywhere it wanted, never ever got stuck, even plowing through feet of snow. Most I went through was about 24 inches. What a blast.

Way back in the late 70's,there was 2 young brothers who used to race a 74 RamCharger, that had a 440 6 pack swapped into it.It used to be a riot watching them race,as the older brother drove, and the younger brother used to sit in the back seat. They'd launch it in 4 low,and about the 100ft mark the younger brother sitting in the back would reef the transfer case outta bull low into high, and the thing would jerk the front end up about 6 inches. They had it down to a science on changing transfer case chains, and could do a chain in about an hour at the track, lol. They were running mid 12's with it back then, and were cleaning up on the streets with it at the same time.

74 was my favorite year because they had the window seated to the top with no upper door frame.

That Ramcharger sounds like a real monster, pulling twelves with that 440 in it. Would have loved to see it in person.
