Got a call today of a vehicle into the water.

20200202_153145.jpg

Fellow decided he'd go 'froading in the creek and bit off a bit more than he could chew.

20200202_155318.jpg

A team of Jeeps kindly drug him up on a big rock and high-centered him here.

They did manage to get most of the truck out after that, but it was certainly making some interesting sounds as it limped away.

The fellow was pretty good humored about it. No paperwork since he intentionally drove into the water so no crash report. Of course that also means when he trades it in there won't be a record of this...something to keep in mind when buying a used 4x4...

Lol! Wow, yeah not the best idea, that's for sure. I'm sure you could have written him up for something, but good call not doing so in this case. Had he intentionally attempted to cross a closed flooded roadway and required folks to risk their lives to save him, different story.

The repair bill will be painful enough, so as it is.

Great photos! Thanks

Empty beer cans float, trucks don't.
He thought he had 4WD..the BW44-44 fell on its face in the river muck.

Probably an expensive lesson. Lol
And some inexperience on the driver's part.

Either let off the pedal when he shouldn't have and stalled it, or tried to plow through too fast and sucked a bunch of water in.

Hopefully an oil and diff fluid change will do the trick, and there's no permanent damage.
Other than a few scrapes on his skid plates.

The motor was running the entire time. The exhaust was happily burbling under the water. He just dug in to the bottom and was only padding water with his tires. The first truck that tried to help him almost got stuck on the bank as it dug into the sand. Also a Ram, but an early Gen 4 diesel with wagon wheels and nearly bald tires.

You know what they say, NO Greater Joy than a Toy you can Destroy.

I got to admit, when I was younger, I did a heckovalot worse.

had a K-5 Blazer that would literally go anywhere. Same for 1978 CHevy Nova, 2dr straight 6 cyl, with Mudders. Thing weighed nothing and would just skim along the top of the Muck, long as those tires stand moving.Never took it in the water though. Did bounce off quite a few tree;s with that old K-5 Blazer and forded MUCH deeper water than that guy attempted.
I went slow and just kept is moving, hard packed clay bottom helped.

I mean ... it doesn't look that deep. I wouldn't take my truck there, but wouldn't really bat an eye in my Jeep (assuming this is a designated fording point).

Agreed. I've asked on this forum before about how deep you can go before fouling the engine. Apparently not very.

That sucks. I've had my interior floors flooded. I too have searched for actual water fording specs. No success.

I live in a suburb of Houston and deal with frequent flooding. We were returning home to Texas during hurricane Harvey. While we were out of state we stocked up on supplies and came back to help evacuate my family and dogs in SugarLand/Houston(mandatory evacuation). That was my first time crossing water beyond the center hub of the wheel. I know it got high enough to get the threshold wet, and the carpet under the weather tech floorliner.

May 7th 2019 we had a 10 inches of rain, a lot of it coming down during 5PM rush hour. Took me 3 hrs to complete what should have been a 1 hr drive. I made it home after navigating stranded cars on my route. When I was momentarily blocked, I saw the 17" OEM rim was only about 2" from being fully submerged. At the time I had 33" tires, and a 2" spring lift. When i finally got home, there were 2 desperate drivers parked and idling in my driveway while the street had about a foot or so of water. I took the next day off to change fluids and pull the seats and carpet. I sprayed down the carpets and vinegar'd everything. No odd smells to this day.

I've been a member here for 5 yrs and am just now having free time to post. The perks of furlough.

My first and last outing with my street truck, was memorable. Got stuck, and when rocking it to get unstuck, blew the spyder gears in the rear diff. My current trucks will never see that type of off road abuse. I suck at it.

I’ve had my truck under to the headlight. Not my best choice but she made it. Couldn’t tell how deep it was originally but just throttled through it. Couldn’t back out since it dipped hard up front and I probably would’ve got stuck. No water inside and I’ve relocated all my breathers so wasn’t worried about flooding the trans or diffs.

I drove through Hurricane Irene floods and a few other misc floods up to, and maybe just above the rocker with no problem.

Then Hurricane Sandy came and wiped her out.
That was my 2011 1500 Big Horn.
Only had like 7 or 8k miles on it.

My 2500 is much higher so I would expect it to do alright in the same, if not slightly higher water levels.
