Hay anyone had issues with the truck accelerating on its own? I have a 2020 Limited with 6k miles. Zero issues thus far. The other night I was pulling in to park behind someone. I was doing 1-3mph when the truck just floored itself. Even with 10-12 feet between me and the car in front I still smashed into it. I was slamming on the breaks, the fw collision kicked in but it didn’t matter.

the truck is at the dealership for diagnostics but from what I have heard these issues go no where. I have read a few report about 2019 models doing this.

I don’t even want to drive this death machine anymore.

I hope all involved are ok.

Sounds like a problem with active cruise control. I know that when I am on the highway and I have active cruise set to say 65, if I come up on someone exiting the highway and we go down to "55ish" once they are out of the path of active cruise, the truck does all it can to get back to 65. You had better be paying attention because it is semi-violent.

I guess I should ask, does your truck have active cruise?

Oh yeah. I have everything. Everyone was fine. The car in front was empty. But I was in a high school parking lot and there were games going on. I definitely could have killed someone

Did you get bit by the faulty floor mats (and a stuck accelerator)?

The vehicle most likely has an event data recorder. Sudden braking, violent swerving or hitting something hard enough to make the airbags deploy will activate it. It contains data around commands to accelerate, steer and brake. The source of those commands also gets recorded. FCA should send a specialist to read and interpret the data when dealing with an uncommanded acceleration complaint leading to a collision.

If you think the dealer / FCA are not taking this seriously or you are not satisfied with their explanation, you can file a safety complaint with NHSTA. If you file it post Dealer / FCA looking at it make sure you retain all paperwork from them. These types of issues are probably #2 on their list of priority right after mechanical component failure like drag link on the 2500's.

No, they are down very tight. That was the first thing they asked me

Thanks. It’s at the dealership today for diagnostics. I filed with RAM AND NHTSA because I know this won’t be taken seriously by the dealership. I’ve never been in an accident and this scared the **** out of me

Good deal. Hopefully they get to the bottom of this with a concrete answer versus "random system glitch", "nothing to see here" & "move along".

@Fatnipples: Not saying this is what happened to you what so ever, but the same day I read this thread, I experienced the same thing only it was my bad. I simply did not move my right foot all the way onto the brake pedal it was like 50/50, so the harder I pressed on the break the more gas I was giving it at the same time. So within the split second It took me to figure out what was going on, you can sure cover a lot of ground. Lucky for me nothing was around to hit. With all the safety gadgets they have on the vehicles now day one would think that they would have a sensor that if the brakes were being pressed the gas would not function. Not surprised that this would be one common cause for vehicle’s accidentally drive in to the front of convenient stores, and it would stop people from driving with two feet and riding the brakes at 55-70 mph. Moral to the story, get your foot in the middle of the brake pedal.

This sort of thing is scary. I’m glad everyone is okay, If you’re like me and this incident wouldve injured or killed someone, you would feel the guilt even if it wasn’t your fault.

I’m sure OP’s situation is one in a million, but still—If this was a computer glitch, its a glitch that could’ve easily killed someone.

Even though I’m majoring in computer science, I still don’t find peace in the “computers know better” mindset that car manufacturers are in. I’m sure those systems have saved hundreds of lives, but how long can these vehicles be on the road before they malfunction and cause harm?

25 years from now am I gonna have to be cautious about these “safe” vehicles crashing into everything because of malfunctioning cruise control buttons or worn out brake sensors? Or cars slamming on their brakes on the Interstate because of a corroded connection to the front proximity sensors? This is all super far fetched, but you never know lol

Anyways, OP I hope you get some answers

I've had the same thing happen, probably because I wear boots and don't lift my foot high enough. When it happens it scares me as much as the wife, and that's going some! Sensor would be nice.

The same thing just happened to my wife. she was stopped at a stop light went to take off. as soon as she let off the break the truck put the petal to the floor. this is terrifying considering my 5 year old and 1 year old were also in the vehicle and I am away for work. luckily there was not a car in front of her so there was no collision and she reacted fast enough to slam on the breaks and turn the truck off. I was shocked when I found this forum and realized it happened to someone else. after restarting the truck she headed home and the same thing happened again.

Were you able to resolve the issue?

Was the dealership able to figure out why this happened?

I'm just trying to figure out my next course of action
