Hey guys, hoping to get some insight before I take it to a mechanic.

My 2019 Ram 1500 Warlock has recently started making random irregular noises coming from the engine (every 5min or so, sometimes much longer), it's hard to even explain the type of sound it is, kinda like a whooshing fan noise but not really?

No dash lights/check engine on, it doesn't seem to matter if I'm accelerating, stopped (in drive), how fast I'm going, heat on, AC on, etc. Although when I got home today I put it in park and left it running hoping to capture the noise from the engine bay but I couldn't.

The noise in the attached video starts at 34 seconds in and last until 47 seconds. I couldn't figure out how to upload on here so uploaded to my YouTube for the first time ever, see below.

Anyone experienced this or have any possible idea what it could be?

I appreciate any help or insight very much!

That sir is MDS kicking on/off Think the vvt sprocket on my old 2011 made that noise while coasting/mds kicked on Try driving it in manual see if it stops If it does just tune out mds and go about your way )_) Or if you still have a warranty take it in.

Thank you and @GTyankee for the very fast replies, much appreciated gentleman! I'm about to go get dinner with the wifey and will give that a try. After doing research it seems that one of the only fixes is getting a tuner to turn off the MDS completely? The again I see people saying no don't do that. I don't have a lot of mechanical knowledge, but the noise is annoying and actually much louder from the outside; I want to find a solution besides having to just put up with it. Any other suggestions?

when i had a Ram that had MDS ...
i would drop 1 gear when i was in towns/cities

As soon as i pulled onto the Highway, no stop Signs or Signal Lights, i would use my Highest Gear & let the MDS do its thing

Thanks all, so it's definitely the MDS as that noise never comes on when I switch to manual mode.

I've done my research and it seems trying to fix the issue I'm having with the MDS can be expensive and there's not really an easy cheap fix? Or am I wrong? Any other suggestions? It seems getting a tuner to cancel the MDS completely isn't recommended but there's a lot of different opinions on that topic so trying to get a definitive answer before my truck goes to the dealership for an oil change and have them look at my MDS problem.

Thanks again for all the help!

Tune out mds it is recommended truck dries a LOT better with it off and mds saves you no gas also make sure your using 5w30 oil to.

So to clarify, you're saying to get a Diablo or other manufacturer tuner to cancel/completely turn off the MDS, or to just use manual mode all the time? Thanks for the reply! Sorry if I'm asking dumb questions, just not super mechanically inclined

Yes however your truck is 2015+ so you need a unlocked PCM others will chime in about that.

Just wanted to give an update, after I got an oil change, the next day the check engine light went off (has stayed off) and the MDS noise/issue has gone away. This was a couple weeks ago. I remember reading this same thing on another thread. So not quite sure what exactly happened or why the oil change fixed it but I'm not complaining! Thanks again everyone for your responses.

In town engage gear limiter. On highway just let truck do its thing. Now U can hit tow haul in town but that changes shift points on trans.

U do oil changes by silly oil warning %%% meter. Cause doing an oil change nothing to do with check engine light unless it was activated by some sensor like silly oil meter. Possible there was another fault that cleared and/or dealership reset.

U could get one scanner and check for codes if U want to try and see why check engine light was on.

Internet guessnosis lol. Drive it, maintain it and enjoy.
