Don't get me wrong the car is essentially a monster when you floor it but here is my biggest issue...

So in stop and go traffic when you get in the 30mph range the car seems like it's doing everything it can to go to the highest available gear, resulting in an a shake/rattling as if you are dragging a mountain behind the car going uphill!..
My question is what is your experience in low speeds?

I just can't imagine this is normal for a premium truck ... and also I have a 2017 Tradesman (6 cylinder) and it's smooth as butter...

Thanks in advance.

I put mine in tow/haul as soon as I start it up. Highway I turn it off. Shifts alot less and will save your tranny. I've done this in all my Rams.

I think what you're experiencing is the MDS system kicking in and out. To correct this, use the directional arrow buttons on the right side of the steering wheel. First off, on the dash, the display will show you what gear you are in. When you push the down button, the truck will not shift above the second number. if you are cruising in 8th gear, pushing the down button will hold the truck in 8th gear and will basically shut off the MDS. If you push the down button before you reach 8th gear, if not touched again, the truck will stay in the gear shown in the display. For example: you are in 4th gear and push the down button. +4 will show up in the display and you will stay in 4th gear. If you push the UP button it will raise the number each time you push the button. Ultimately you want to see -8 as the second number. The truck will shift all of the gears properly without the MDS system attempting to take over. Each time you turn off the truck you will need to follow this procedure again.
I use this function all the time when I'm not on a freeway. It makes the truck so much easier to drive in traffic.

So this actually fixed the issue but seriously, this shouldn't be something we have to deal with, right?

Hi Jasmine,
From what I am hearing this seems to be "normal" for the truck, however if this is something that sounds like an issue I would be more than happy to take it to the dealership but I think I am not ready for the dreaded "Couldn't duplicate problem" diagnosis. Is RAM care getting these complaints a lot? As mentioned previously, I just can't imaging this is a "normal" aspect of the truck.

Get yourself a Pedal Commander it’ll remove the lag in the gas pedal and it could help it shift smoother

Hi M4Mehdi,
I understand your concern. Being that I'm not mechanically trained, I cannot determine if this is a common concern or if it is normal but we are available to provide you with additional assistance should you decide to visit your dealer. If you do go this route, I suggest take a drive with a service advisor so you can easily duplicate it for them. We're available via private message if you have any additional questions!

I towed a dump trailer (14,000 gross) with a 7,000 tractor on board. My 2018 2500 Cummins starting shaking bad. I blamed the road from Albany N.Y. because it was so rough. Then I blew my first NEW 10 ply trailer tire and thought it must of been a belt went bad. The second tire blew about 100 miles down stream. Fixed that and before i even got on 86 the truck started shaking violently. Made it home believing a wheel bearing went bad somewhere. Three weeks later without the trailer the truck did it again.

FYI, my 2019 (1500/Hemi) does not do as you describe. I can feel it kick out of MDS sometimes, but it’s more audio/feel. Once in a while I can feel a very slight bogging down when it holds a high gear too long before down shifting, but it’s very slight and if I’m not paying attention, I wouldn’t notice it. There is an update for the ANC. If the ANC is acting up, it will cause shaking and vibration, mostly on decel (or light, steady cruise) with the ECO light on.

I've got a Limited with 3.21 gears. Speed limit through our little town is 30 and if I get behind some schmuck going 25 he gets really grumpy and shifts up and down and the slightest throttle input.
Seems that 25mph puts him smack between a couple of gears and he can't figure out which to use.
Tow/haul or range limit will solve it by helping him decide.
Or you can just go faster..."You see officer, due to the gearing of my truck...."

Just a guess, but was that rough road I-88 from Albany to Binghamton?

Hello I recently purchased 2019 2500 , 6.4. When I’m parked idling or stopped at light idling I have a very slight vibration or shake That can be felt. Yes it seems like a miss would cause this. But there is no hesitation, cough or spit when placed in drive. Very responsive. I hear engine running but really can’t tell if there’s a valve tap. Could the MDS be causing this shake. If I bring it to dealership can they scan it and tell what’s causing it to shake. Has anyone else experienced this or have any insight on cause.
