Ecodiesel w/3.92 gears or find a 1500 hemi with 8 speed and 3.92 gears would be your best all in one option.

People say even the 2500 is much nicer with the 8 speed, but that puts you into an almost new truck as it is a fairly new option.

You don't say if you are towing distances or high speed, so we have to guess lol.
When I do tow I do tow a decent distance probably two 300 km round-trip 90% of the time I have axed both the trucks in this comparison and I am now down to a 2017 SLT that has 75,008 km with 392 gears remote start heated seats and steering wheel. No hemi tick but was a work truck so it was somewhat abused and it was from Quebec. Truck two is a 2017 outdoorsman with 321 gears and has 100,000 km was a personal truck and crowned yearly. Third truck is what I’m going to see right now and is a 2016 ram sport with 58,000 km and an unknown gear ratio. All trucks are 4 x 4 and all have an eight speed transmission

What is your max weight - trailer and load?
If under 8000 lbs, I wouldn't worry about the gear ratio and get the least rusty truck :)

FYI with the 8 speed - 8th gear with 3.92 is the same as 7th gear with the 3.21's and so on down to about 5th gear on the 3.21's. So you will just be in one gear lower with the 3.21's vs. the 3.92's when towing - when empty you will enjoy the superior highway mpg of the 3.21 gears if that is what you have. BOTH have enough power and lower gear ratio to pull from a start than a 3.92 geared 6 speed.

Also your speed limits are lower than ours south of the border so that will help also.

I approach 8000lbs loaded pushing 8500

You'll be ok with 3.21's just change your rear gear oil every year - it's easier to change the rear gear oil than the engine oil.
Pull drain plug, drain, put plug back in, fill till it just drips out - done.

Sounds like this is basically a work truck. However, OP does make a point of mentioning one choice having heated seats. Does it have to do duty as a family hauler as well? Is regular cab OK. Are amenities high on the priority list?
Reason I ask is I think I very recently read a thread on this forum about someone wanting a fairly basic truck. I have not looked for the thread but I think they ordered a NEW Tradesman with at least one additional options packag. It was, 4X2 with post, 5.7 with a tow package and pretty sure 3.92 rear axle ratio. Price was around $30,000. I realize it was not 4X4 but seems like that price would be pretty competitive to the used trucks mentioned.
Just a thought.

I ended up with the 2016 Ram Sport. Truck was low km and clean and had been oil sprayed. It’s a HEMI Crew cab 8 speed 4x4 with 5,7 box with a colour matched cap in red. Has integrated ITB parking sensors and backup camera. Spray in bed liner. No heated seats or steering wheel. Thank you for everyone’s help and input
