I have a 2002 4x4 1500. Needs entire rear end swapped. Gears shredded due to housing crack. Fairly certain it’s a 3.92 with traction control. Got that info from parts counter at dodge.
1. Can I put any 3.92 in that’s from the same year or close is years?
2. With the tag missing how can I be certain it’s a 3.92?
3. Must my new rear come from 4wd?
4. Does it matter if it’s from a Van.?

I’m not sure about the correct answer to questions #1 and 4.
Question 2, count the number of teeth on the ring gear and then decide by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. That will give you the ratio.
#3 It will not matter if it comes from a 4wd or 2wd.
