I just bought a 2018 ram 3500 and I don’t understand the window sticker and since I can’t look up the vin I’m confused. On the sticker it says on the left side the truck has 3.73 gears but then on the right side it says 3.42 gears. Anyone know how I can find out for sure what I have ?

Is 3.42 listed under “optional equipment”? If so that’s what you likely have.

As said, you have the c ummims engine so you have 3.42s. Plenty of gear with the Cummins! You also have the Aisin trans. Very nice combo! Congrats!

There is also a “ Ram website link” someone will prolly post it shortly, where you can enter your vin and see all your options.

To make yourself absolutely positive you could always jack up the rear axle. Mark the driveshaft, then rotate the tires. Count the number of revolutions of the drive shaft per single revolution of the tire. Just under 3 1/2 and you've got the 3.42 ration. Not quite 4 and you've got the 3.73:1 ratio.

NOTE: Chock the front tires when lifting the rear tires off the ground.

I didn't think you get get an aisin unless it had 4.10 gears? I know the 3.42 is the standard on all the 6.7. I think the 3.73 is the standard on the non diesel versions. So when they added the diesel to the package it changes it to 3.42 from 3.73 and then when you add the aisin it adds the 4.10 gears. I know the 1500 series trucks have a sticker or metal tag on the rear diff that states the gear ratio. I haven't looked under a 2500 or 3500 to see if the tag is equipped on them but its worth a look.

You have the 3.42. Standard equipment is the 3.73, and in the upgrades you got the Aisin/Cummins combo with the 3.42 gears.

Not all Aisin are 4:10. I saw plenty that weren't when I was truck shopping.

That’s weird I didn’t think Aisins care with the 3.42s. But just to clarify you can get 3.73s and 4.10s with the Aisin

You can only get the 3.73 or 4.10 rear if you get the dually option. The single rear truck with Cummins can only be had with a 3.42 axle ratio.

If I’m not mistaking it looks like he does have the dually

No tag on my 2500. Not even a paint pen mark.

You are right. Now that I can see the window sticker, I see it is a dually. With the Cummins and a dually the 3.42 is the standard ratio and you can get the 3.73 or 4.10 as options. I think this is the case for the 68RFE and Aisin transmission.
