Rear entertainment system

I have a 2012 ram 1500 with the rear entertainment system. My question is, is there a way to play movies other than using a DVD on that system? Such as hooking a iPad up to the USB port on the radio face. If so how? I tried but it would just play the sound over the radio no movie on the rear screen.
