on my old superdookie i had a rear plow, kinda cobbled together but man was it nice to have it

the one i had before replaced the rear bumper with, well, a chunk of I beam, heavy and effective but ugly as sin
(of course, that truck was a ford, so it matched)

i talked to a local fabricator over the weekend to see if he would be comfortable welding the pivot points to my fabricated bumper, but he wasnt

he said SOP id to build a plate that installs like a draw bar into the trailer receiver

personally, that sounds a but flimsy, what are you guys thoughts on this?

Are you looking to push snow with a rear plow, or drag it behind kind of like a box scraper? For pushing you can buy a hitch mounted plow, kind of like Plowser. For a ****** maybe something like this. https://heavyhitch.com/product/back-plow-blade-with-54-snow-plow-blade/
I'll see if I can find a picture tomorrow

What I have is a regular drag behind plow

The idea is I like to back up to a garage, drop the rear plow, drive forward 30 feet, raise the back plow, back up 25 feet, drop the front plow and make a clean sweep

Without the back plow, I'd have to pull in forward, drop the plow, drag it back about 30 feet, raise rhe plow, turn around, back in, drop the front plow and make a clean sweep

I've don't it both ways, and the back plow is just quicker

This is kind of what I have in mind, it attached to the receiver and has 2 drag links for stability

For sure, but it seems flimsy to me, compared to how it *** originally mounted

This big ole anchor bolted right to the frame of the Ford, and it was solid

So coming from this, I was wondering how well a receiver mount actually works

Let's put it this way: if you have a Class IV (2") receiver, it's rated to pull something like 10k, WITH weight on it. If you have a Class V (2.5") they're rated to something like 15-18k. You're literally just dragging a piece of steel and some snow, with no downforce on the receiver. Even in thick, heavy snow, you won't be pulling anywhere near that amount of force. It will work just fine for many years.

You'll be stuck, long before you pull a Class V hitch mount plow off

thats not the part im worried about, what worries me is the 2.5 inch pintle just not being stable, i want it to be a mounting point, not a swivel point

but i admit, im most likely overthinking it

I know Boss sells a rear drag snowplow for pickups. There are a lot of videos on YouTube of guys plowing snow with pickups and see this quite often.

the boss rear plows mount in a way very similar to the front ones, there is a special frame that gets mounted to the truck, and the actual plow attaches to it

(they even have some that mount inside the bed, much like a 5th wheel)

to the best of my knowledge, none of the big names make receiver mounted rear plows
