Hello everyone! I'm looking to level the rear of my ram with the front. I have a 1500 tradesman with the tow package so it has a 3.5 inch difference in height. I'm wondering which springs/shocks would be best to make that happen without totally breaking the bank. I was also hoping I could get away with just doing springs to save a buck for now. Ready, set, go!

Do you want to lower the rear or raise the front to make the front and rear level? It’s typical to raise the front to accomplish a level. I’m not a tow guy but I’d assume if you lower the rear you’d create other issues if you tow.

I don't plan on towing anything with her. I'm willing to make that sacrifice. I looked into both and personally id rather lower the rear. Im sure itll com around to bite me in the ass but i dont see myself towing anything other than maybe a bed of furniture

If you only do the springs the shocks will be too long, a lowering kit for the rear will almost always come with springs and shocks to match. If you're concerned with occasional towing, a cheaper in coil airbag like the Airlift 1000 series would probably be a good match, just air up when you need to tow.

I get it now. Can’t help you with lowering, I went the other way and raised the front. This forum had a section called “lowered”, I’ve read posts by others that have lowered their trucks, they may be able to help with your question. Additionally you can reach out to Nick at gotexhaust.com in the vendor section. He sells discounted suspension products for our trucks and he may be able to point you in a good direction. Quick_Shifter owns a suspension shop with a great reputation in Pennsylvania so he may be able to provide valuable information and Jeepwalker is a forum member that always has great information on the off road stuff.

I disagree No need for the shocks. The shocks are shorter that will keep the springs in the pockets when you take the load off.Jacking up or on a lift ect.I know they will work with out them but I like the idea of the springs saying in place.

I installed these while on a lift... let the axle COMPLETELY drop down after the lowering coils where in, and everything was bolted back together, see no need for new shocks... Mcgaughys 44055 doesn't include shocks either.

The new shocks are 2 1/2 inches shorter than factory keeps everything in place. when I cut my stockers, two coils could reach in and pull out when tires were hanging. The shorter shocks eliminated that.

FWIW I went 2 extra steps other than just Pro Suspension 272920 coil spring install. I took Belltech up on their shorter 2214FF Street Performance shock for slightly lowered trucks. And a tip for anyone and everyone on here with the sway bar issue that arises. RockAuto of course has a bazillion Chrysler parts on there, so I sat and referenced vehicle rear end links for quite a bit of time and realized the Jeep Commander '06-'10 used the EXACT style link as our RAM, they are just shorter length (-1 3/4"). MOOG's K80468 link would be an exact example of something you could use. Installing a set levels the sway bar out perfectly again, without having to spend serious coin on "adjustable links", which are nice, but I just was convinced unnecessary if I could figure a $reasonable$ work around. Anyway, something I successfully attempted and wanted to contribute here, I hadn't seen that solution preposed around here yet.

I dropped mine almost 3 years ago with Mcgaughys. Don't need shocks. I've hauled stuff and pulled trailers without a problem. Nothing crazy heavy. Hardly any squat when I did.
