I'm not terribly disappointed with the audio in my truck (non-Alpine 8.4") but it's a little behind what my 08 Jeep had. I will NOT go whole hog with an amp, subs and so on but I'm game for a door speaker upgrade if there's something out there that's at least noticeable.

I looked through Crutchfield a bit and it seems to suggest 6x9, 6 1/2 and 5 1/4" speakers. What should go in the doors? I'm willing to entertain speakers nearing $100 a pair, no separate tweeters etc. Plug. And. Play.

What you will find is the 6x9 speaker opening in the doors is not the usual spec for aftermarket 6x9s.
I went with a set of Rockford Fosgates 6x9s that were about $119 a pair if I recall and they "mostly" fit.
I put some foam tape around the edges of the speaker for a good seal.
BTW the Rockfords have been excellent. I'm upgrading to 2 10s and a 1KW mono amp. The Rockfords are staying.

Get the Kicker Ram upgrade speakers. They are completely plug and play.

Based on reviews and a lot of research as to what fits, etc. I've decided to buy Kenwood eXcelon series speakers for the dash and front and back doors, and a Kenwood eXcelon 5 channel amp. The 5th channel has a high power output for a sub, which I will probably add later at some point.

I put kicker 6.5s in all doors, 3.5s in the dash. I think the cs series. Sound great, but absolutely no bass whatsoever. Just installed the pioneer 6x9s that wallacemf recommended above in a buddys 2500. They sound amazing for 40 or $50 a pair.
If your not going to install an amp, the pioneers are great bang for the buck. Just my opinion. Depends on your budget

6.5's = No bass. 4 pioneer 6x9s and new 3.5" dash spkrs is sweeeet. Less than $200 for all 6 i think. I have a sub box w/ two 10's and 600w amp i may not install now from my traded in 3rd gen ..

Curious about some of these recommended speakers.. they are all 4 ohm. Anyone experience lower audio after the install? Is it really insignificant compared to factory 6x9s?

The feeling i am getting from the reviews here are that it doesn't matter and the new stuff just sounds a ton better...

I put these in my ‘19 Classic crew cab. The 4 ways in the back and 3 ways in the front doors. No spacers needed and sound more clear. A few days later I installed the Kickers in my dash and WOW, those little suckers really bring out the clarity. Had to fade to the back 1 or 2 notches.
I have a non Alpine 8.4 unit and no amp(yet), altogether it was about $250 Canadian
