So my 2500 was part of the water pump recall that FCA announced a few weeks back (you know, truck could spontaneously light on fire). I dropped it off at the dealership for the recall and a few other things on Monday and was told the Dealership was notified about the recall but can't do any repairs as of yet because Ram hasn't provided any parts. Is this a nationwide thing or has anyone else with a Cummins had their vehicle repaired for this recall? Just wondering how long this might take and when I'll have to bring the truck back... Thanks!

I was at the dealer this morning to drop off my wife's Cherokee for an oil change and asked about it. The service advisor told me that, yes, they don't have the parts yet and there's no way to know when they will get them, it could be tomorrow or a year from now. He did say now that I have the recall letter if it breaks they'll have to pay for the repairs, towing etc. if it fails before they get the parts. I told him what if I have it 20 miles out in the desert on a dirt road when it breaks? He said they'd have to pay for the towing. Hopefully, I won't have to test any of that. Seems kind of funny that they've know about this for a couple months yet they haven't been getting the parts in yet?

So the thing about recalls is it is normal to not have parts when the recall is announced. I'd assume it is a lot like Ford in the fact that the dealer is notified first saying this is a common problem we are seeing and we are looking into it, then the next step is to notify owners while the fix is being constructed. Last would be supplying the parts to the dealers and sending another letter to owners saying that the parts are now available. It takes time to develop these fixes, but they want everyone to know what to watch for as a "just in case"

The dealer should have inspected your water pump to see if it is one of the targeted pumps. The recall covers all Cummins engines used in RAM production between October 24, 2012 through February 28, 2017, only 1% of production, or about 4,600 trucks are affected.

There is no procedure for the recall yet, they may have that on the site you referenced but the current recall states nothing is going to be done until further notice.

My sticker on my 2015 3500 only says 10/2014, doesn't have a specific date. My pump failed two weeks ago. Upon checking I don't have a vent hole on my pump. Was told no parts and no idea when they will be available. So I'm without a truck and no way to tow or haul stuff from NJ to Florida. They will not pay for rental, will not cover part if aftermarket and will void engine warranty if a part other than mopar is used. How the hell do I tow a 40' fifth wheel and multiple other trailers, not to mention I have no everyday transportation now.
BTW, if you tow it to a dealer you only have 7 days to apply for a reimbursement so I'm not going to tow it there and have it sit there and possibly be damaged or vandalized. This could be a long wait. They also don't cover the Tensioner Pulley which THEY recommend to replace when the belt is replaced. My belt was shredded and lost power steering and brakes as a result.

You can buy a pump from Cummins or any other place and they'll reimburse you. (Cummins out of stock right now) It's been discussed ad nauseam on other sites and the people doing it themselves or buying a pump and having a mechanic do it and they've all reported that they've been reimbursed promptly. Probably a better option than letting it sit for who knows how long.

Here's one that's in stock now (according to the web site)... https://www.genosgarage.com/product/dodge-ram-cummins-gates-water-pump-42133/water-pump

Typical of recalls these days as they do not stock up on parts before a recall is issued if you think for a min. it should be this way you have a wrong impression of how recalls work.

So the water pump recall is just for Cummins engines, but not the 6.4 Hemi engines?

I checked the Mopar recall site this morning and it said...

Recall Status
INCOMPLETE BUT REPAIR PARTS ARE AVAILABLE

...for both the water pump recall and the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock recall. So, I called the dealer to see when I could get in and was told, "The parts are "restricted" (whatever the hell that means?). Do you want us to call you when the parts are available?" Well...Duh!...YES! Now, I guess if you're some big-wig maybe or something like that they have the parts but they're "restricted" for us "regular" folk? Think I might pay a personal visit in the next couple days when I have a chance and actually talk to the service advisor I usually use instead of the gal answering the phone in the office.

Ok, regarding "restricted", I just viewed the video above so that's explained there. Still going to visit and see if I can get on the short list to get it done.
