I like the idea of just adding some Lubeguard and have the tick go away as long as it doesn't effect the oils cold starting viscosity significantly...

It is visc 7ish at operating temp with no oil thickners. Wont do anything to visc.

Lucas is 2-3 times thicker then 75w140 gear fluid.

I feel dumb reading all this stuff I live in Maine and I know when engine is cold I hear a ticking slimiest like if the fan was running but it sounds like it’s comming from the drivers side wheel well.

I'm currently running RL 0w30 in my truck and have seen no difference so far between that and 5w30. What I have noticed is my truck seems to be a lot quieter on cold starts when it's cold out than on 5w30. So I'm most likely going to start running 0w30 in the winter and 5w30 in the summer.
Hemi395, can you define "cold starts" (what temp do you consider cold starts)? I contacted Redline and asked them if 0W-30 or 5W-30 would be better if my winter temperature was 20F and summer 95F and they said 5w-30 would be suitable for all year around viscosity and there wouldn't be a benefit switching to 0W-30 for winter start up.

I consider cold starts anything below freezing down to 0°F. Anything below that should have a block heater or a pan heater.

If you look at the specs of RL 5w30 and RL 0w30, the 0w30 has a lower viscosity all the way up to operating temp which mean it will flow better in the cold than RL 5w30. Really the main reason I chose to run the 0w30.

I don't think redline has the info we have with our application and cold starts. 5w30 has earned Nick name Hemi honey, but there has been piston slap in some hemis that sound better on 0w30. At 20f I would try hemi honey 5w30 redline, but guys in sub 0 weather will benefit from 0w30.
