Hey all,

2013 Ram 1500 5.7L

I replaced my heater core and when I put everything back together I broke my brake light switch.

I ordered a new brake light switch and it. My traction control light comes on and off. When it’s off I can turn cruise control on but I cannot set a speed.

Is there something I’m missing? I checked all the plugs under the dash. Nothing is loose or not clipped in 100%.

All looks good. No clue what else to check. I heard somewhere the brake light switch needs to be programmed/calibrated and that this could possible be the cause?

All helps much appreciated.

If it's an aftermarket switch, throw it out and get a genuine MOPAR switch. Set it up correctly in the holder/brake pedal, then use a scan tool to enter the ABS module and calibrate it correctly. I could be wrong, so ask someone that actually knows what they are talking about.

Seems like I say this dozens of times a week, but check the codes which are triggering the traction control light. You need a decent scanner and not one of those $30 cheapo versions (which most big auto parts stores seem to use). Also, you should be able to see stored codes so the light doesn't have to be active. That will at least point you in the right direction.
I would not expect the brake light switch issue to be the direct cause of the traction control light. However if you broke the brake pedal switch I would be suspicious something else got messed up. You should have a traction control on/off button on the dash. See if it works, and what happens when you turn the traction control off by the button. Can you use cruise control?

Factory remote start or the cruise control may not function correctly or at all with any outstanding DTCs set.

As mentioned, find or purchase a good scan tool and see what needs clearing.

I don’t know if this applies to Ram switches but my daughter had a VW Golf and their switches had a very specific installation procedure. If you didn’t follow it exactly the new switch was toast.
