Hi everyone.

I had to ask, has anyone ever considered or gone through with replacing the black up light in their tail lights with a white led?

I do have the led tail lights currently on my 2015 ram 1500 Laramie but I believe the reverse light is still halogen. Thanks in advance.

I went with headlight Revolution. Have no regrets. They are a little more than some options. However no light out error codes. Insanely bright. Couldn’t feel more confident recommending them.

I can recommend LUYED reverse bulbs.
Careful what you order because Rams can have 2 different bulbs check yours first.
7440 luyeds are 1700 lumens and are the ones needed if replacing factory LEDs.
921 luyeds are 1550 lumens and replace factory incandescents.

Both of these are super bright. I use the 921s in my Outdoorsman for both the backup and upper cargo lamps. Impressive amount of light now.
Bright white colour. Not bluish or yellowish.
Neighbor across the road says too bright.
Google them. Got mine from amazon. They replaced at no charge when I ordered the wrong ones at first.
Again verify your bulb type by eye. Web listings are often wrong for compatibility.

I'd put the LUYED 2 X 1700 Lumens on order, then read about the different reverse bulbs.
So did a quick cancel till I could check my reverse bulbs.
Then went out to check my reverse OEM bulb before ordering the 7440 LED bulbs again.

I've got the LED tails.
The reverse bulb is marked: Toshiba 12V21W, W21H
This appears to cross-ref to a 7440 bulb. HYUNDAI OEM Toshiba 7440 T20 12V 21 Clear Bulb..

I replaced factory incandescent reverse bulbs with the Luyens 7440- 1700 lumen units without issue. What are the supposed issues, if any? No trouble for a year or more.

Looks like the 921 and 7440 have different base sizes T5 for 921, T6-1/2 for 7440

Just checked the OEM bulbs I removed (I keep them as spares in the center console). For sure they are the 7440 units with the wider socket base. Name brand info reads: Toshiba - 12v21W W21W (E2) 216 1 7 6 E . The Luyed units I installed snap right into the sockets as per OEM without any extra space or issues at all. When I ordered I simply went by a simple cross ref. to the bulbs that my truck "should have" in a OEM sense..the 7440 unit. I think I did a MoparParts search to find the correct "as installed from factory" bulb call out. Anyway..the Luyed units work fine.

Just rechecked the original bulbs I replaced in my reverse and cargo lamps and as I previously noted there are 2 different reverse light sockets.
On my 2018 Outdoorsman the incandescents are 921s.

Toshiba 921LL 7
12V W16W E2 218 9

Different than TigerST has but sure look the same as his pic.

My truck owners manual lists the 2 different bulbs
- 7440/W21W as 'premium backup lamp' so Luyed 1700 lumen works

-921 'backup lamp' so Luyed 1550 lumens works.

If I had have checked the manual and pulled an original to verify I wouldn't have had to return a set of 1700s.

The Amazon.ca web store warned the 921s were not a match for my truck but WRONGO.

I went with :

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01H57FXWA/ref=pe_3034960_236394800_TE_dp_2

There is more commentary here:

Not the cheapest by far, but I'm pleased. There is a curnency exchange rate to consider between the Can. funds versus the U.S. dollar also, btw. Today that diff is running toward about 38% or so.

That's interesting. I burned out the brake light in the "Center High Mount Brakelight" unit. I went back to LUYED again for the LED replacements. While there I also replaced the cab lights x2 that live in the HMBL unit with the same LED replacements. All three bulbs are the same size/type/style of bulb. Here is a Amozon link (I hope):

LUYED (2 Extremely Bright 1600 Lumens Backup Reverse Lights 360-Degree Shine 921 912 W 16W 3020 30-EX Chipsets, Xenon White, No Hyper Flash, Bulbs - Amazon Canada

Once again these are not the cheapest out there, but having had good luck with the back up light LEDs from LUYED I went back to the same brand. No issues at all with these new ones. Also, in a Covid Ontario Canada world (we are so screwed here) Amazon got them to the door in quick time, where as mail carriers can't provide their normal services in a timing sensse. Ordered on May 29, at the door on June 1, which is crazy fast. Regarding the back up lights. Mine are still working fine and I did not have any "bulb out" codes on the dash. I remember that the back up light bulbs were polarity correct fitment...they had to be in the correct way to light up. Other than that it's all been good so far.

FYI, a "red" LED should be used center high mounted (3rd) brake light.

That might be a better choice Badger 13, but the stock bulbs are all incandescent white units. As it is, I've not been able to see my new LED bulb in the CHMB in service as yet....i'm just not fast enough to push the brake pedal and then run to the back of the truck to see it on. LOL!

TigreST, I think you just have to run faster to the rear of the truck. ;)

:Big Laugh: Badger. "if you don't like this speed, your gonna hate the next one!"

With the help of my son I finally got a look at the rear CHMB LED performance. At a guess, no matter which you might go with (Red LEDS or White), it's gonna be fine. My white install is very bright in both the box lighting service area and brake light performance. Truth be known, I do not have a OEM brake light performance "brightness" memory to call on as a means of performance comparison. But that said, I've started to take note of other RAMS on the road and how well their CHMB lights are working. Interesting that more than a few I've noticed are not working at all (they are not on at a stop signs/stop lights). It makes me wonder if they are aware that the CHMB unit is burned out? I watched the "brake light out" notice on my dash for about two weeks before looking into the issue. I checked wiring harness connections and did the "four way flashers" test etc, with nothing indicated as being burned out. A quick search here on the forums and "bingo" a third brake light check was in order....but yet again I needed a third foot to press the pedal to check function. Funny, that remembering and checking the CHMB was not at the fore front of my trouble shooting routine...totally forgot about it.
