I will be replacing my transmission within the next couple of weeks and need to make sure I have everything I’ll need prior to swapping it out. Replacing with the same transmission. It will come with a torque converter with it, is there a better torque converter that anyone works recommend while I’m doing the swap that won’t cost an arm and a leg?
Also, what all do I need to make sure I have on hand when I begin the tear down and install of the replacement transmission?

Tools, equipment, etc?

Won’t have a lift to use so I’ll be sliding up under the truck to do all the work…fortunately I have a lift so it won’t be as bad.. hopefully.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks in advance y’all!

Definitely going to flush the cooler line. I’ve been told it’s needing replaced also but idk. I do plan on putting on a cooler bypass in as well to help keepit cooler. I live in Texas so not too concerned about colder weather for the most part.

Unless you reuse your original TPM you'll have to do a transmission relearn.A couple long extensions and good quality swivel sockets will make getting the bell housing bolts out easier. There are no cheap convertors for the 8 speed. As stated flush the hell out of the cooler and lines,i used a couple hundred bucks worth of OEM 8/9 speed fluid to flush the cooler and TMU unit on the transmission, when i replaced my 8 speed, and the lines i took off and washed out with gas then blew them dry.If you're buying a new or rebuilt 8 speed, they usually don't come with the TMU,so you'll have to transfer it off your original transmission, onto the new transmission,if so go to your local dealer and see if they can get the updated transfer tubes that don't use the leak prone o-rings.
These are the updated transfer tubes, that do away with the O-ring tubes

the @caulk04 transmission cooler bypass upgrade is amazing! Get the valve and their aluminum cover/cap as well!

This would be a great time to also install the PPE trans pan (with their extra 2qts fluid volume model). Cover all your fluid volume and temperature management areas in one shot ;)

Use Valvoline MaxLife or the OEM MOPAR fluid only, and then follow the trans refill Green Sheet to a "T", and then recheck the fluid level after a good run to ensure everything is on point.

Maybe even look at having a custom exhaust y-pipe made up as well. This has got to be one of the single best upgrades for a HEMI truck to allow much better flow for optimal running performance, there is! (this is just my opinion only though).

I just had to replaced mine it went out around 155,000 miles, when the transmission shop called me they asked what it was used for ? after explaining that the person who owned it ordered it special and that everythng was heavy duty. After his nspection he said that it had a light duty trans and wouldn't recommed rebuilding or replacing with same trans if I towed anything instead of a $6,000. dollar repair the trans ad labor was $10,300.. When you do your trans make sure what you have and what your using it for.
