I took my 2023 1500 in for an oil change and tire rotation last week and after I got my bill, I noticed a comment on the back. They recommend returning after 50 to 100 miles to have the lug nuts re-torque. Has anybody here ever heard of doing such?
Thanks

It is quite common for shops and some good mechanics to request that the customer return to re-torque the wheels after any type of wheel-off service.

Yes, I've been seeing this for years, but I've never returned to have them do it, nor have I done it myself, and never had a problem.

Note: I also drink from the garden hose and run with scissors.*

*This plan is not without risks.

Returning to verify wheel nut torque has been an SOP everywhere in North America since a crazy amount of litigation from runaway wheels.

I check my own at home and have yet to find one nut loose, others will often claim they have.

I also use anti-seize on the wheel nut studs and torque to a non-dry torque of 105 ft pounds.

The proper thing to do, which most shops are unwilling to spend the time on, is to torque the lugs, drive the vehicle around the block, and retorque. So, yeah, go back a week later and have it done!

The only reason I asked about re-torquing is that after driving for over 60 years and having tires rotated this is the first time I’ve had it mentioned to do it. I wonder if they charge for re-torquing them
No shop will charge for a retorque ;)

Interesting indeed & appreciate the insight, too :)

I've been reducing the dry torque spec by about 20% for decades and have yet to lose a wheel. I might now go check the torque, just for fun.

The real test is convincing a dealership service writer to add that to the work order.
I've had mixed reactions from "That's illegal" to "Sure, no problem".
I haven't often verified they set the torque to my requested value.

When I can obtain a warranty check, synthetic oil change (I provide my own filter), and seasonal tire change for $130, I use a nearby dealership.

They also have a gourmet chef who makes incredibly tasty lunches for a very reasonable price.

Update; I should have indicated I have reduced the dry torque spec by ~20% because I use a slight bit of anti-seize on the wheel lugs.

WHEN I get OCI done, I have wheels rotated. I also tell the SA, or the Service Guy at local shop, 130 ft lbs please, verified by TQ wrench. I also tell them not to run them on with air hammer till U need a crane to get them off. I also stand there and watch the tech ref torque of wheels.

I do like bi weekly pmcs on truck, checking all fluids, belt, bolts tight, etc etc and I also have my own TQ and check bolts.

ADDED: Guess I am too a-nal. But I's just a BOIRD.

Funny you mention a dealership chef...

At Team Chrysler in Mississauga, ON - they, too have an incredible (real) Chef who makes some fantastic meals at really reasonable prices as well.

He was a cruise line top chef for many years and then retired. He got bored of just catering so he came in to this dealership and now serves meals to all the other dealerships in the entire automotive sales group that is in the dealerships complexes.

Is that a Canadian thing? I am yet to see a "Chef" at any dealership I have gone to. Just usually some coffee pots, and a machine to buy junk out of, LOL. Also, if real lucky, they may have a TV.

Must be an Eastern thing,as there's no chefs in any of the dealers i've visited in Western Canada, you're lucky if they have a TV / coffee machine and some decent reading material in the waiting area, lol
