Hello Everybody,

I am new here and trying to help a friend out. He received the new update from uconnect and tried to install with no luck.

He said the update ran for hours and got stuck. He told me he tried 10 times with no luck and along with a dead battery.

Firmware he received uconnect_vp4,18.45.01-my13-17

Truck: 2014 Ram

It has made his radio into a brick and dealer is saying $400 for new radio.

Any Guidance or help would be much appreciated.

I tried 3 times to get a thumb drive to be accepted that had the update.
Then i went to Best Buy to have one of the techs load the update on a thumb drive & i could not get that one to work either.
I was told by the dealership that i would be charged $150 if they updated it

The dealership also has what i think is a Firmware update for my radio, they said that is a free install

Thanks for the info went to the site says my system is up to date my truck is from Canada I believe is there a place to check I believe someone mentioned another place to get the updates

I go to dealer thay said wait for update notification, i called uconnect they said go to dealer, what can i do? I know in my 19 classic i download the 18.xx to a thumb drive and update myself can i use same?

Your 5th gen radio is completely different sw & manufacturer than the 13-17 4th gen 8.4 ... Your 5th gen radio actually goes by the "Application Version".


** and that SDARS info screen is definitely not what you need to reference.

Well, i made an appointment with the dealership
for Wednesday first thing

First they are going to check to be sure that the USB port is working, because i need to load
Uconnect_VP4,18.45.01
I attempted to do it 3 times
A guy at Geek Squad went through the whole process 2 times
Then the Service Writer at the dealership had a thumb drive with the download on from 1 of the Techs

None of those tries was seen by the radio

If the dealership gets my truck to accept the thumb drive, i will get 18.45.01 & then they have an update for the GPS that they will load

I was at the dealership before they opened the gates.

The same SA that attempted to upgrade my RA4 radio, after i tried several times & ways.
He asked me why i wanted the radio updated.
I told him that it had been an OTA update etc, etc.

He drove my Ram back to one of the Techs & 2 1/2 hours later, i had my Ram back.
It was updated with Version 18.45.01 & it also looks like the GPS system had a new number also
I am $162. out of pocket

Just wanted to confirm that I can update my 8.4 using a downloaded zip file(Ver 18.45.01) from a different VIN or from the shared zip file on mediafire referenced on this forum. There was a note on the uconnect site not to use the firmware with any other VINs.

I apologize for the way I worded my post. It was supposed to be, if I can update, to question if it could be done without issues.

Here is the latest on my 2016 Ram 1500 Bighorn
MY Ram was built in December of 2015

It came with the RA4 8.4AN radio

I updated the Navigation Maps in 2019

The other day, i had the dealership update the Radio from
Software version 17.11.07 to 18.45.01

The whole reason that i wanted the update done was because i can NOT get the Navigation to work.

Today i tried to Enter the address for my Doctor

It allowed me to Enter my Town & when i went to enter the Street.
The was a message ,
Something about missing data

I have to get my Canon camera working again
That way i can take images, that tell the whole story

Then maybe Mpgrimm2 & KAD, etc.
will have a better idea of what is going on

Also kept usb drive in while got bolo message then come back and check with the display off. Once I open the door it turns on again and hourglass boot to install again. I am so frustrated and my battery now has dead cell and wont recharge. Can someone help please; @RamCares

Not Yet; I reached out to the principal owner to a location near me and haven't heard a response for a week. I did some research of my own and I am concluding with evidence that FCA send me the recall USB CSN VB3 which was done awhile ago. I reviewed the log file last night and found strange evidence that has me wondering if they sent me the wrong file to begin with. As you can see below the software log beginning is from the VB3 USB (Date Mod 11/09/2019 3:27am)

*** As you can see above it states I have 2018 which is incorrect; and part number is different than behind the radio. You will also see on comparing the v850Type=hs on this one as the next one I will provide below.





This Software Log I am going to provide below is the one that has put the head unit into a boot loop. Firmware was provided by u connect website via Vin# search tool. Downloaded many times with firewall and antivirus off; used 7 different kinds of USB drives that have been formatted FAT32 - not quick format feature; used 7zip to extract files to USB drives. Some USB drives are generic and some are 16gb & 32 Kingston brand name. Now in the log notice that the part number is correct; model year is correct but V850Type is TB Not sure if it is correct.

Is it possible that the it was originally sold as a For Use in Canadian vehicle

You can tell by the first 3 digits of your Vin number
1C6 made for the USA
2C6 made for use in Canada

I am not a radio or even electrical type person, so anything i type may be trash
some things that i saw made me wonder about country use

Bought Brand New; its a 2014 with 41k miles. The first three digits of the vin is 1C6. I'm Pretty sure its a RA4 VP4 Radio from factory; even uconnect website download makes that available by vin. Maybe I should try a RA3 VP4 version software?

I have no idea what to do. I did notice after leaving it on for a couple days and the bolo message hanging the time on the cluster popped up but was like 12 hours behind. But the time went away every time it reboots.

I'm 1000% convince this has to be Firmware issue. I'm no pro coder but I know computers and some languages.

It's unfortunately not uncommon for the sierra wireless AirCard (Cell/GPS) to fail during an update... Especially if the battery dies or it loses power during the update process.

If you already had the update to v18.45.x, that's the latest version and it won't let you update to an earlier one. You may be able to try it again but it sounds like that's already been done.

Shared Fw files can also be found (at this own risk) ....

The radio is likely toast. Needs to be replaced/repaired ( $400-$500 on eBay ). Ram should IMO cover this due to the failed update. RamCares may be able to assist. That's really all there is.

I can't suggest what to do
I finally took my 2016 to the dealership & asked them to update it from the 17.11.07 to the 18.5.01

I noticed just yesterday that my Nav is working a little better
I used VR to ask for the nearest CVS Drug Store & it showed up

But it can't find a big California chain type hardware store & i was in a nearby driveway

The Nav Maps were upgraded within the last year

Someone must have a very lucrative business re-writing hard drives & reselling those Bricked Radios

How did you come up with that part number? Actually the back of the radio is that number but with a AH at the end not AX; Sorry kind of confused.
I did have to put a new battery in which was $200+ & and a tank of gas (thanks uconnect) Weird thing is I have probably tried like 50 times already and out of those times two or three I've noticed that on unit 11 it did go to 33% then give message of error of port or something like that and another instance it almost went to 70% with same error then ultimately bolo error and then every other time just hangs at 1% and bolo error. What is strange also is that the Purple cardboard CSN VB3 USB update as you can see in the log was installed in the vehicle prior and the radio worked but GPS was off that's why went to uconnect for new update. But once I downloaded latest update from uconnect and compared VB3 it seems the VB3 has the latest date modified by a couple months.

Also what doesn't make sense is VB3 to me is the log file say 2018 v850type=hs while uconnect latest update by VIN says 2014 v850type=TB. What does this mean? also they both state 18.45.01 firmware version.

I totally agree RamCares hopefully can assist cause RAM/UCONNECT should cover this big failed update. IMO they were so worried about hackers but in reality their own people hacked there own equipment to make it DOA. So Frustrating!
