The 18.45.x update was to fix a y2k style gps bug where the 20 yr old satellites rolled over to a date that wasn't compatible. Not really Rams fault... Affected cell phones and anything else with a GPS chip

I bought a 2016 RAM 25000 Laramie a couple of months ago and here is my problem....

1. Nav was never activated so selling dealer (GM dealer) agreed to have it activated for me at the local RAM dealer. Dealer activated Nav and it is working fine but with old maps.
2. A free map upgrade was offered with the activation but it needed the UConnect upgrade to 18.45.01 before the map upgrade could be loaded.
3. I have followed the steps to the letter from having the correct formatted thumb drive to inserting in the USB port. Keeps coming back as "files not supported".
4. My current version is, get this, 15.25.8. I can't find this version documented anywhere.

Anything I can do other than take it back to the dealer?

Just today i received a notice on my cell phone, that there is a update available for my
RA 4 8.4 AN radio
I updated the radio about 2 or 3 months ago to version 18.45.01

That's correct....

Post 3 has a link to the original fw thread for earlier fw up to v17.x.x.

Assuming you have a factory installed 2016 RA3 VP3-NA radio ... post 9 of the original fw thread is where you want to start.

You will need to read the TSB/instructions linked there and ensure your 16gb SanDisk drive (what I use from Walmart) is setup correctly with the correct 1 or 2 files on the root of the drive (swdl.iso & swdl.upd) with nothing else on it per the directions.

Once that's done, you will be able to go to v18.45.x also listed in post 3.

Message me your phone number (start a conversation under my avatar) and I will give you a quick call for some pointers.

I've got a 4GB stick formatted to fat32 and no files except the two in the download. I'm going to give that a try later today when I have some time.

Learned something today. I was able to go from 15.25.8 to 17.42.01 with no issue at all. I will download and try 18.45.01 tomorrow probably.

Also, from suggestions by @Mpgrimm2 , I did all of the following...

1. New 16GB drive
2. If your phone is paired, turn off bluetooth
3. Get in the truck, turn it on, start the upload and don't open a door, window, turn anything on, i.e. don't do anything to potentially change the voltage as it might be possible that voltage changes will affect the upload.
4. Be patient! It took awhile for this change from 15.25.8 to 17.43.01.

Worked perfectly.

Went ahead and did the update from 17.43.01 to 18.45.01. Easy. Much shorter time than the previous update.

I was able to update to software 18.45 and through Navi-UK, I was able to update the maps to 2020 for roughly 1/2 the price of buying from Uconnect. Everything works great and the system is very stable. I'm happy to provide screenshots of all versions if anyone is interested.

17.43.01 is an older software version
18.45.01 is the latest software version, it corrected my GPS issues

Here Technologies lost my map update order and the history of the navigation update. I've spent 4 hours or so over the last week on the phone trying to get them reordered.

Absolute beating of a company to work with and ****** customer service .
