I haven’t gotten in the shifter yet and the cable may indeed have issues. Any clue as to why there is a noise that comes from the ignition switch when moving the shifter like in the video? That can’t be normal can it?
Again it’s not my truck so I don’t know if it has always made that sound. I could also see not even noticing the sound when you drive it every day.

Well, the owner can pull off the console cover & drive the vehicle around the block.
If there is a passenger, they can watch it clicking

How long has she owned this truck?

Is this a new problem, or has she always been able to shift out of park? It could well be an adjustment issue ....but I'm wondering if an earlier owner converted it from column shift to console? (that's a mod some owners have done).

Is it 4x4? If so, shift into N and Low...then back. Just for the heck of it. If 4x2, disregard.

I saw that it was 4wd in the First video
i saw something that looked like a Rotary Knob & next to it, the imprinted letters
it looked like

4Wheel Lock , it had 4 positions

It appears to be a 6 speed, floor shift 4x4 based on video reviews . I didn't see a previous column shifter.

Jeepwalker, she has owned it 2years and it’s a new problem. Only mods that I’m aware of is previous owner added a 6” lift kit. My approach to this issue is to first figure out why this weird clicking sound is happening like in the first video. She says it happens once a week maybe twice. Always when parked, engine running and shifter in Park. My concern is this will lead to a failure and leave her stranded.
The rollaway happened a couple times and thankfully resulted in minimal damage. She always sets the parking brake now. I won’t get a chance to look at it again until next weekend. Thanks everyone and please keep the suggestions and ideas coming. This is a weird one!

Oh, and one more variable.
She says that the clicking sound and the failure of her Amp Research power step to work properly on the driver side (passenger side works perfectly) started after her truck was “broken” into. It may have been unlocked but probably was locked but no signs of damage.

If you haven't already, I'd make sure your batt->body grounds are rock solid. Loosen and re-tighten. Make sure batt connections are spot-on. Poor grounds can lead to all sorts of bugaboos, with all the electronics and modules on these tks (any modern vehicle).

Also ...again, if you haven't already ...push down all the fuses in the fusebox area. Believe it or not, these Ram fuses have a tendency to work themselves 'up' over time. Some owners have had fuses work out of their spot.

Maybe not your issues, but both are simple and easy enough to check out and rule out.

OK, abit of confusion here.

2009 - 2012 Dodge Ram 1500s had the setup that is seen in the videos.
beginning in July, August,or September of 2012 ..
Every Ram 1500 that rolled off the assembly line, had the ROTARY Shifter & 8 Speed ZF Transmission
.....................................................

Now on the other hand, the 2500 though the 5500 Models did not switch over to the 8 Speed ZF Transmission.

Therefore, i have to think that the videos show a Heavy Duty model ????

No. the 4th gen 1500s came with a 6 speed 65RE standard.

Hello everyone, I’m new here and I’m trying to help my niece. She has a 2013 Ram Sport 4wd with a 65RFE transmission. Currently there are two problems and I’m wondering if they are related. The truck rolled away backwards with it supposedly in park and there is a strange and loud clicking sound that randomly comes from the area of the WIN module. Today she was able to get a video of the clicking which occurred with it running and in park after having been driven for about 20 minutes. Does anyone have a clues? I asked her if she could shift out of park with the key off and she said that yes, sometimes she can. So is this all because of a bad WIN module? Or something else?

The way transmissions are designed to work is, they cannot be put into park unless they are moving less than 5 mph. The reason for this is, if you were going faster and put it into park the u joint at the back of the transmission or the shaft would shear. The driveshaft would then fall down and catch on the ground and most likely flip the vehicle. This is a federal standard, not a Dodge design thing.

In a 65RE there is a pawl which engages when the vehicle is put in park and it is stopped or nearly stopped. It is designed so it will not engage when the truck is moving: Instead it will ratchet. I suspect this is the ratcheting sound you're hearing.

You didn't say how many miles she has on the truck. The 545REF / 65RE transmissions are good for on average about 130k miles. I have two Dodge 1500 trucks, a 3rd gen and a 4th gen. Each is on its second transmission. I suspect you're looking at a replacement transmission soon if not now. You can get a remanufactured one from Street Smart for around $2500 exchange. It will be better than a new one and they're not very difficult to install - or you can have it put in for around $600.

Thanks Jeepwalker. I will check the fuses and grounds. Believe me I know about loose ground causing issues. The worst I’ve had was an ‘88 GMC that had the high and low beams switched, the radio would go on and off with the turn signals and something else I can’t recall because of a loose ground under the dash!

Thanks pscarbor, but the “ratcheting sound” as you put it comes from the ignition switch (WIN module) and not from the tranny or center console area. How could that be the pawl?

I don't know, but thinking it's not going all the way into park, at one time you could adjust the cable, or rod , That truck looks the same as my 2010, 4 wd auto.
I think also the park brake switch is buggered. that could be the clicking in the dash as the truck thinks it not in park.

On RFE transmissions, after age, the shift cables stretch. They are lubed from the factory, but the lubricant gets gummy and may not move the shift pawl all the way into park. I've been told they can be manually relubed, but replacement is usually the cure.

I'm not sure this would have an impact on the WIN module.

Who ever told you that is full of $h!t,you could still get the 6 speed RFE in a 1500 well after that,and in Canada it was still available all the way up to 2019

When I ordered my 2014, the 8-speed was an option. If I had wanted a floor shifter with bucket seats it was only offered with an RFE.

My son drove a 2015 Ram 1500 delivery truck for Advanced Auto. That was the last column shift, RFE I ever saw in a 1500.

You could still get the column shift RFE right up to 2019 in Canada,i'm not sure what year they quit offering the console shifted RFE though
