Ive got a 2014 1500 with the 5.7 and 6 spd trans, if im doing 60+ and i floor it, the rpms seem to jump a gear, then jump into another gear making the rpm bounce back down a few hundred from the top.
It always has a slight double shift, it's just extremely noticeable on the highway...
Ive tried putting it in the manual mode to turn off MDS temporarily, still shifts the same, as well as in tow/haul at lower speeds.
Please tell me this isn't normal...

Ive never owned a vehicle that doesn't have a smooth downshift at WOT

Valve body and fuel pump were replaced 13k ago. If it's normal i don't want to risk wasting $150 for dodge to tell me it shifts fine.

I don't know exactly what you're referring to here but almost every automatic transmission since the 90s has had a lockup torque converter so during a shift (or during acceleration) the torque converter is unlocked and free to work at whatever ratio fluid physics dictate at the moment, then once speed and load stabilize they lock up with a friction clutch to save fuel and you see that on your tachometer as a small reduction in RPM despite your road speed not changing.

Hi @Cgts18 - Please do not hesitate to follow up with us via PM if you address this with a dealer and any additional support is needed for that process.

I have never owned a vehicle that does this and they were almost all 2000s+.
If i could upload a video i would.

Imagine driving at 60mph in 6th then quickly downshifted to 4th, and just about the time you finish the shift you throw it in 2nd.
That's the best way i can explain it.

If you’re talking about going onto a highway and doing 60, flooring it and it goes into 4th then 2nd then yes, it’s normal. My 2013 4.7 with the same transmission does this. It’ll jump to 2K then around 3-4K (depends on speed) and i’ll speed up.

Just a heads up for you, your 6 speed tranny doesn't like wide open downshifts, that'll kill them eventually. Try to get in the habit of manually down shifting it first before going to wide open throttle, and avoid extended periods of wide open in high gear if you can,the overdrive clutches don't like that.If you do those 2 things the tranny will probably out live the truck. When you go to pass it'll live longer if you manually downshift it first instead of waiting for the transmission to downshift on it's own.

That's depressing to know. I don't drive it like that often, but it felt so horrible i figured something had to be wrong. F250 work truck shifts the same around the city, but smooth as butter on the highway. Oh well. Guess it's just this transmission model.

Thanks, i normally don't drive it rough so i should be fine assuming the trans is fine, especially driving 3qt low on fluid for 12k miles.
