2017 (production 2016) ram 1500 tradesman. Noticed that from time to time my transmission has a rough downshift, usually going uphill with little to no load during 654 dowshift. Doesn't always happen just on the odd occasion. Bought truck used at 44k km (now 57) and noted dealer had replaced the transmission pan for a leak. Still got a year or so on the power train warranty. Curious if anyone else has this issue. Would appreciate any suggestions as to how to have the tranny checked, at a reasonable cost, to determine if there is a problem or if this is just a quirk of the tranny. Six speed tranny. Ive checked the fluid several times and its fine. As it only happens occasionally I'm not panicing but If its a problem i'd like to get it taken care of under the power train warranty. Thanks in advance for your comments/advice

Ive got the 6 speed, and at 140,000 miles mine started doing that. I parked it and then changed the fluid and filter. I used a mopar filter kit and redline fluid. Its as good as new. I know I have been seeing this happen more and more with the 8 speed. My Charger hasn't done it, but it also has barely 13,000 miles.

I own a 17' Ram 1500, 5.7Hemi, CC, short bed, 6-speed, 392gears. Purchased brand new. Currently @ 26,500kms, approx. I've gone through two periods in my 52 months of ownership where I've felt my transmission wasn't acting/performing as usual! Once very early on, >5000kms, I didn't like the way it was down shifting, except it was at low speeds. Specifcally 3,2,1. Dealership re-flashed the tranny, I felt like that helped the issue. Second, has been more recent. I felt like all of a sudden my RPM's were running higher, specifically at highway speeds. But I think I was being a bit paranoid! At 70mph, my truck runs at 1900RPM's. Remember I'm 6-speed w/392's. Other than those two hiccups, truck has been solid.
One thing I've found, my truck likes higher rpm's, especially up shifting. If I get out of the throttle too soon, it can be kind of a "rough" shift. Specifically 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd. That's the only thing I've experienced as "rough". But not similar to your experiences.
I would start w/a re-flash of the transmission, let it learn how you drive. Good luck.

There's a few driving techique's that'll help keep your 5 or 6 speed living a long and happy life. #1 try to avoid doing wide open downshifts, like when you want to pass somebody on a 2 lane road. Try to get in the habit of manually pre-downshifting it via the shifter button on the gear shift lever or console shifter before going wide open, #2 the transmissions also don't like wide open runs in overdrive/high gear,so try to avoid an extended foot to the floor high speed run
