which wd set up works best that has the built in sway control? I see the round bar set up is about 50$ cheaper and was wondering why. I really like the built in set up, less busy-ness and the frame

They both do the same thing. Set up correctly it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

Now, sway control, well, that's debatable. lol You can get either style with friction or dual cam sway control.

Actually one does it better than the other. Don't be cheap with your setup. Trunion bars are the way to go. I have thousands of miles on my Reese Dual Cam setup, when setup and adjusted properly, you'll have no sag and a smooth ride with no sway.

I had a trunion setup when pulling my 30ft TH with my 1500, worked great.
However when I switched to my current 2500 the set up would not work no matter how I adjusted the hitch, or distributed the weight inside the trailer.

Dealer switched me to the round bars and anti-sway controller, problem solved.

Too bad you aren't closer I would make you one heck of a deal!

Pretty broad statement. Mostly untrue though. The bars, whether round or trunion, do the same exact thing. Relieve tongue weight from the rear wheels of the TV to the front wheels of the TV and TT wheels. That's it. What they are attached to in terms of sway control is what differentiates them.

Honestly, a properly set up WDH and TV won't need sway control.

I don't think its as easy to add sway control to the round bars. Trunion bars you can add it.

Pretty broad and untrue statement. Proper WDH does not negate sway control. :flipthebird:

Hello Chris,

My vote is for the trunnion, the built in sway control works well. It is also easy to add extra sway control if necessary. The trunnion style is easy to hook up and disconnect when you need to less than 5 minutes once it is setup.
This could be easier if you have power tongue jack to assist you.
The longer the the friction pad where the bars sit the more sway control you have. With the loads I carry I have not ever thought I needed to add more sway control.
Of course I never pulled a 30' box either, but I have carried all sorts of oddly shaped loads that were 8' tall all up and down the east coast with lots of different Mfg's trucks with the same hitch for 18 years or more.

The hitch is not the place to skimp a especially with a 1500 series pulling the load you intend to carry.
Remember you have a lot of money you invested in this rig, not worrying about the hitch you will sleep better, not to mention the family in the tow vehicle and the other people on the road you are responsible for.

Good luck with the new setup Chris happy trails.
