I installed a new oil pan gasket today and added the rtv to the corners of the gasket on the block side like the instructions said. Can anyone tell me how long I should let this dry before adding oil? It’s been 4 1/2 hours so far. Fel-Pro gasket and Fel-Pro Black RTV.

You are good to go. Go ahead and pour the oil in. Engine RTV is pretty robust stuff. When I replace an oil pan gasket like you I pour the oil in as soon as I have all of the pan bolts back in and the drain plug is tight.

Thanks for info. I went ahead and let it dry over night. I had nothing to do so figured more time can’t hurt. I’ll remember this the next time I do one.

It depends on temperature and humidity, but over night should be more than enough

No leaks so far. Seems to be sealed up for now. Ive only driven about 75 miles since the oil was added.

I have a question for you.
Why would you ask an internet forum and not just read the directions on the product?

My guess is this may have been the first time he has performed a repair like this and needed a little extra clarification from the users with experience.

It says on the directions to apply, then hand tighten each bolt until product begins to slightly squeeze out. After an hour or 2, depending on temperature. You can then torque bolts to spec. Then wait 24 hours before introducing oil, coolant, transmission fluid etc. In this case, it was oil. In a nut shell, that's what I remember the directions saying. Unless its different for the ultra black RTV. that's what the red RTV pretty much says. I used it for a water pump on a 2004 camry. That was 5 years ago, and its still good. RTV is great stuff

There were no directions written on the tube that came with kit. Only dry times. The tube said to assemble parts within 5 min of applying 15 min to skin 1 hour to dry and 24 hrs to cure. So I figure the best guys to ask are the ones who maybe have used it before.
