I need some ideas on who makes a nice set of frame mounted boards. They also need to be out from the body (as apposed to close contact). Pics and links appreciated.

These are the ones I have. They are Lund stainless steel black bars. They are sturdy and they don't move. I'm 6'1" 225lbs and they are solid as a rock when I step on them.

I recommend either stainless steel or aluminum bars/steps. Better rust resistance. Avoid carbon steel, they will rust the quickest even the powder coated ones. As far as frame mounted, I don't think they makes them for the 4th gen but I might be wrong. All of the ones I've seen are mounted the same way as mine using the dedicated body mounting points and the pinch weld as a secondary brace.20200306_121758.jpg20200306_121746_HDR.jpg20200306_121648.jpg

go full length, wheel to wheel. You won't regret it. All others look... insufficient. You can reach things in the bed that slide up to the cab, you can clean your rear window nice and easy, and they just give the truck a finished look. I got OEM running boards from the dealership for a good deal. I found a place in Texas that advertised a very low price. I asked them for a written quote, took it into my local dealership and they honored the price. I didn't even have to pay for shipping. And because they're OEM, they bolted right up. Install took less than 30 min.

NFab wheel to wheel have been on my last three Ram trucks. Rock solid, great textured finish, they look good too.

Wheel to Wheel is the only way to go. I wanted something more like a nerf-bar / rock slider looking step but the Workshop Implanted Financial Executive (WIFE) said they were too expensive. Plus, the reason we wanted them was for her and the kiddos to be able to get in and out easier. Having an actual "step" the full length was a no brainer for our situation.

Unfortunately, my OEM running boards connect to the body, not the frame.

What did you pay for these? Do you have part# I'm hoping they come in black or might line x em if not. I bought some Westin wheel to wheels waiting for them to show up but not sure if I like how the curl in towards the body on the ends. These look really nice!

Another vote for a wheel-to-wheel. This will allow you to access the truck bed easily.

Only way to get frame mounted is white knuckle sliders. Or fully custom built by a fabrication shop
I have OEM power boards on my 2500 so took your advice to see if White Knuckle will build me a set of bed boards for my long box.

This is the factory set on my 1996. They do a great job of protecting the sides of the truck from mud, rocks and the like, and these are frame mounted so never any problems with rust or being sturdy.

What he said ^^ OEM bolts on perfectly and they’re rock solid. Have the dealership plug in your VIN for proper part. Regardless, get wheel to wheel, you won’t regret it.
