Finally got rid of my k & n cai and im stuck between the s&b or the vararam. the only reason i am hesitating on pulling the trigger on the vararam is that i occasionally go mudding and dont understand how it doesnt get soaked when its raining at highway speeds. is this something that i need to reconsider if i do buy the vararam? i like the way the s&b looks but i know the vararam performs better. what would yall do? also if you pick the s&b, which filter would you get, the dry or oiled one?

well if theyre that close in performance than i think the s&b is what i will be going with. im going to pair this with a y-pipe at the same time so hopefully it will yield something nice. you have a preference dry/oiled?

The oiled filters flow better, but are a little tougher to maintain. If you have used an oiled filter in the past, then they are not a problem...you just have to be careful not to put too much oil on it when you clean it. The dry filter will flow a little less, but is easier to clean...just wash or blow it out, and then throw it back on the truck.

I'd do S&B. This has happened a time or two, but this most recent trip to the duck blind was the worst. Best thing is I didn't even use 4wd that day and the truck wasn't even that dirty :(

It's a good seal too. I ordered a new tube in black when I did my body, even got an inch of extra length. You can see it's snug enough to rub the liner off but it just fit snug in the same spot on both sides towards the back.....

The 2wd non dirty aftermath to boot...

Near miss?? It defiantely made it to the throttle body

Just haven't takin it off because I don't care to find out it made it to the engine
Near miss because you didn't go into hydraulic lock and slam all your connecting rods into cork screws.

I'd have crapped my shorts when I saw that liquid trail--hell, I practically did when I saw your pictures.

I took another close look at your pictures.
It looks like the mud/water got in where your hood liner has been rubbed away by the vararam seal.
Have you sent pictures to Vararam? May, or may not benefit you, but it may suggest design changes to them that could prevent similar leakage on future installations.

In a perfect world, they'd want to make it right with you to keep all the forums from filling up with your pictures and chasing away all their future sales.

Come to think of it, if you get angry, Volant and S&B would probably love to have those pictures, but for different reasons. :suicide:

So when you say body do you mean body lift? Cause I'll be getting my intake soon and I was also leaning towards the vararam because I had one on my 3rd gen and loved it but never went offroad. But I plan on offroading my current truck every once in a while but nothing like in your profile pic, you think i'd be ok? Plus I prefer the badass look of the vararam

I have a Vararam on my G8 that sucks air from right behind the grill and it's a direct shot right through the filter and into the engine and I drive it year round with ZERO issues. Waters can ingest small amounts of water with no issues as long as its running.

I personally love Vararams customer support.
