So I'm sitting in my house looking out the window thinking man it looks cold out there with about 9" of snow on the ground and another 5" or so coming. That got me thinking about my S&B cold air intake and how today it would be working overtime with all the cold air out there. Then I started thinking about the scoop I have on mine and realized...."damn, when I go to work tomorrow I'll be sucking up all kinds of snow!" So after a few choice swear words and cold ****** knuckles, I finally got the damn thing removed and plugged up. Given all this, I decided to see if there was something that could be done to avoid this issue next year. I looked up S&B website and I can't find a scoop plug but I did find a filter wrap. I was wondering if any of you guys running S&B CAI's have ever used the filter wraps on these and how they work? Also, are there any "plug" options out there that maybe I'm overlooking?

The filter wrap is useful for dusty conditions. The plug that is used for the lower scoop is all you would need to keep it safe from snow or water imo

Problem is I can't find a scoop plug for my scoop. I see they have them for some of the other intakes just doesn't appear to have it available for mine. Lol.

Really? That sucks. My S&B came with it in the box.

Yea I have the small rectangle plug that came with the system but that is to be used in lieu of the scoop. When the scoop is installed the plug doesn't work. Unless I'm missing something that is. Lol.

^ Correct; it's either the plug in the front of the airbox, OR the scoop. I asked S&B and they recommended the filter wrap so that's all I have done and we've had more snow this winter than I've ever seen.
I just went and double-checks but have not seen any accumulation of snow in the filter box.
I might fab a scoop plug for next winter. There's no way I'm removing & reinstalling that thing ever year.

That's what I'm thinking. I damn sure don't want to do what in had to do this morning EVER AGAIN! lol. I am doing some brainstorming to see what Incan come up with. I'll keep this thread in mind if I come up with something worth while.

Cut an old sport sock. Try that around the opening. It'll let the air through but not the snow.

Not sure of the design, but it could work. Just guessing rather than taking it out....lol

My 1st idea before the filter wrap, was a filter-wrap media for the bottom of the scoop; same idea (air flows through but not snow) but more weather-resistant for the warm, slushy days.

Or get some of that blue home furnace filter stuff from Canadian Tire. Shove it up in the scoop. Far enough that it won't get too wet. Maybe some fishing wire tied to a small nut to pull it out in the spring.

I'm sure that would work well.

Reading this thread just made me realize that I never installed the plug in my S&B. When I ordered it I also ordered the scoop. Once it came in and I went to install the scoop I read that it cautioned against using it if you drove through deep water (which I do at the hunting lease on occasion) so I sent it back. I did not install the plug.

Is that going to cause any issues? I'm planning on driving the truck to work tomorrow rather than my company vehicle due to the fresh snow everywhere.

Crap.

Disregard. There was no way I was going to sleep wondering if the missing plug was going to cause an issue. I got dressed, went to the garage and dug it up then went outside and put it on lol.

^ You ford rivers as deep as the height of your airbox?? That's what it would take, to hydro-lock your engine as a result of water entering that additional hole in the airbox.(at that point it would also be going in the stock hole in the fender)
Total and complete overkill to plug it, IMO.

I totally agree with the above statement. Unless u plan on driving through some real deep stuff, you will be fine.

At times the water comes up over the hood (briefly) but I was more concerned with that unplugged hole sucking up snow.

Maybe stretch a piece of nylon stocking over the scoop instead of a sock?
