Hi All,

I bought a 2018 1500 Night Edition and part of the package was 1 year free subscription to Sirius XM. As I didn't subscribe afterwards, on the anniversary of buying my truck, they cut the service - I was driving when it happened. The screen went garbled and froze soon after - after a 1 minute wait or so, it reboots and all is fine. Since then, whenever I turn on my truck, the screen freezes - I'd say a 60% chance. This gets really annoying when I want to back up and my camera is inactive due to a frozen display.

Have any of you experienced this? Is there a way to do a "factory reboot" of the system? I believe the issues is software and not hardware. When Sirius runs their "free 2 weeks" every 3 months, the display behaves much better, so I think it has something to do with that service.

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Yak

Wow, that's gotta suck! Are you still under warranty? If so, put the headache off on the dealer.

Hi Yak,

I'm sorry to hear about this concern with your radio! Have you had the chance to visit your dealer to have this looked into further? I'd recommend having an in-person diagnosis performed to get to the bottom of this issue. If you need further assistance, please PM us any time.

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for reaching out. Just called my dealership and they confirmed some faultiness with some of the RAM radios - they mentioned that the radios usually need to be replaced so I have an appointment for a diagnostic. The radio is under the warranty period so hopefully all will be well in the end.

Cheers,
Blair

Thanks for that update, Blair. It sounds like your dealer should be able to take care of this for you, but if you need us, we're here.

I had the exact same thing happen to my radio as soon as my trial subscription ended in October. It usually took 2-3 times of rebooting before it finally stopped freezing, and did it about 60-70% of the time I’d start the truck. I had a hunch it was related to SiriusXM. I signed up for a year of SiriusXM in November, when they offered $60 for the whole year. Low and behold, it hasn’t frozen up since.

Mine also failed, and does a reboot every 2 minutes or so. It won't recognize my phone or the USB stick i store music on. Unfortunately, it happened late in the day before a 6 hour drive - nothing but radio that would take a 15 second nap every few minutes.

That was a horrible drive.

It took a few weeks for the dealership to figure it out, because there was a alternator problem as well, and they wouldn't look at the radio if there was an electrical issue happening at the same time. After they finally said it was dead, I needed to wait a week for a replacement part. Should be fixed tomorrow.

Just take it to the dealership.

That sounds different than my (and Yak’s) problem. Yours sounds like it sucks much worse than ours, since it doesn’t sound like there was a resolution after a few resets. Have you tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal for about 10 minutes and then reconnecting it? I resolved an issue with my Apple Play not connecting by resetting it this way.

It was pretty ugly - I really hate listening to the radio, as it seems filled with paranoid lunatics, ranting "funny" morning DJs, crappy music and endless ads. I normally solve that problem with podcasts and music on a USB drive.

I really didn't spend much time trying to fix it, because I was already at the dealership for an alternator issue. They swapped the radio yesterday in an hour. Problem appears to be solved.
