I have a 2025 Big Horn with the SST engine. I was looking under the hood checking out what is what. I noticed a second little battery on the firewall side of the main battery. I looked in the owners manual, and other places. I have heard of E-torque, and what I have rad it is on the 5.7 and the 3.6 to help with the A.S.S. So I come to the mass knowledge and ask, what is it for?

The SST also has Auto Stop Start. I think the smaller battery is to keep the electronics running when the engine stops when the vehicle stops for
more than 5 seconds or so. I don't recall the exact threshold for stopping the engine. I try to always press the Stop/Start disable button...

in the Google search, Ai section :

The smaller battery in the 2025 Ram 1500 eTorque is a 430 watt-hour lithium-ion nickel manganese cobalt-graphite battery. It's used to store electricity generated by the motor-generator unit.
  • The Ram 1500 eTorque is a mild hybrid vehicle that uses a motor-generator unit to power the vehicle's accessories and charge the 12-volt battery.
  • The motor-generator unit also recaptures energy during braking and deceleration to recharge the battery pack.
  • The eTorque system also provides additional torque to the engine during gear changes.
    ---------------------------------------
A "Ram motor generator unit" refers to the "eTorque" system found in Ram trucks, which is essentially a belt-driven motor-generator that functions as both a starter motor and an alternator, capturing energy during deceleration to charge a small 48-volt battery pack, providing additional torque during acceleration and improving fuel efficiency; it's essentially a mild hybrid system within the Ram engine.

Strange I haven’t seen that discussion over there. I’m curious to see this small battery. Also, the only engine with etorque on a 2025 is the 3.6 V6 Pentastar engine. Neither Hurricane version has etorque.

@Mlarv5 please post pics of this battery.

On my pacifica there's a second smaller battery and it is definitely for the start stop operation. When the engine stops at a light, it keeps everything alive. Last I checked that small battery was $300 to replace.
