It means you need to visit your dealer.

Or ignore it. It's a (somewhat) free country.

You need to run a scan tool For DTS codes too many things it could be any where from a wheel speed sensor to a bad abs module are just two things it could be

I had this on my 2018 Ram 3500 back in January 2020. Dealer replaced ABS pump and module and it worked good up until last week when I braked hard while towing my camper. It comes on intermittently now. Unfortunately repair is out of warranty so I will have to eat this one. The ABS module appears to be a weak link in the braking system.

If you can, drive to your nearest well known Auto Parts store
ie: Autozone, Oriellys, Advance

Ask a salesman if they could hook up their OBD2 Scan Tool to your vehicle

Chances are, at least one trouble code will rear its ugly head
Hopefully they will give you a print out of the Code & what may cause it
If you have the code, someone could tell you what may be wrong

..............................................................

When ever you do have a trouble light on your Instrument Cluster
Some other things may not work, such as your Cruise Control

in my case it is C0020-01 currently (ABS pump motor control), and it was the same last year when the warranty repair was done.

Good news, ABS pump and module replaced again under warranty! Paperwork said one year warranty on the repair but the repair warranty actually was good for two years. Hopefully this fix will hold.

My 2018 dash lights came on, ABS and traction control not working, message center said service ABS.
Code reader said left front speed sensor.
Took to the dealer, diagnosed. It was left wheel bearing causing a slight vibration (i did nor notice it).
Wheel bearing replace on warranty, all is good no warnings and ABS working.

Just had this pop up on mine today. It would pop up for about 1 or 2 seconds then disappear. Shut the truck off and after starting it back up I didn't see it again but only drove it about 1 mile after that.
Truck is a 2018 2500 6.4 with 26,000 miles on it

If you’re out of warranty take it to Autozone and have them see what error code got saved. My 2015 sport was doing this and it was the passenger front wheel speed sensor. Changed it for $25 and about 20 minutes in my driveway.

i believe it is out of warranty. Only has 26,000 miles but it's a 2018 so my 3 years is up. I have a generic OBDII scanner but don't think it checks for codes related to ABS? Both scanners I have are over 10 years old

Get AlfaOBD it can read and clear the ABS codes.

Ironically (and unfortunately) was on my way to Auto Zone to get some vacuum pump oil and the ABS and traction control lights came on again with the message to service brake system. Asked the guy at Auto Zone if he could scan it and he said if the check engine light isn't on then it won't show anything...ugh.

I hadn't driven the truck for about 3 or 4 days

Unfortunately I am waiting for my third ABS pump. Looks like part not available until April, and that is still the original part number pump that will probably fail again.

It likely your ABS pump, it seems to be a common issue sadly. My 2500 is currently at an independent Diesel shop waiting for a used part. If you search around some people are on their 3rd pumps. The dealer told me it would be February at best before I could get a new part, and searching around on the web some people have been waiting a year. I am not happy about how much this will cost.

If your handy you can try and do this yourself, there is some info below. If this happens to me again I am going to DIY it. I am paying the shop way too much for a used replacement part, but it's not the shops fault.

Start by getting a good scanner like the OBDLink and AlfaOBD (its an app on your Android phone, not sure about Apple). This will give you the exact code. Getting these two cost less then going to the dealer to pay for a diagnostic.

Once you figure that out if its the pump you can try this service to repair it, however I can not comment on how effective it is. This thread has a lot of details about what might be the issue.

I got my third ABS module replaced on monday. Unfortunately it was the original part number unit again so it will likely fail. Dealer said improved unit will be out in the spring of 2024.
