ok I have a 2017 2500 Cummings

I am wondering how to shift with lever while towing. I have never tried it. Don’t want to mess up my trans if I do it wrong. Do I do this on the fly or do I start shifting from take off

What's a "Cummings" ? :D

When towing I let my transmission figure out when it needs to shift by putting it in Tow/Haul mode. That way I'm not guessing nor am I putting it at risk.

For unloaded running around town, when I shift in manual mode it's usually governed by speed & RPM. All you really need to do is make sure you aren't revving the engine above redline when you are shifting up or down.

Our 5ver is 12k...I try to keep my rpms around 1900 but now lower than 1700 towing basically 4th below 60 and 5th for cruising.
