It seems to be time to take your grievance to a small claims court to recoup some of your losses, including your time away from work.

I have to pay them to get my truck back . ;(. So I’m going to . Can I take them to court then after that ??? Or am I acknowledging the charges by paying them? I mean I just need my truck back . I haven’t hardly worked at all in 7 weeks . I’m so broke .. utilities are threatening to shut off …. I need my truck but they screwed me bad . Can I still sue if I pay’b
Here in Texas, you cannot sue someone for being galactically stupid/ incompetent. In Civil court, it is all about money and what the thing you are suing over cost you. That cost would be your damages. Since you are so broke, you would have to get the truck our of their shop. That could be accomplished here in Texas with an order of sequestration.

AFTER you then got up the money to have the truck fixed by a competent shop, you would be faced with suing the idjits you're currently dealing with for what ever your provable losses are. E.G. The cost of getting the truck out of the shop, the cost of wrecker, the cost of suing them, etc.

You are spelling out a very complicated scenario. In the Buckeye state, I do not know rules of evidence, procedures of small claims lawsuits, but do know how it is in Texas.

See if you can find an attorney to help you get on the correct track. Go talk to the JP at your local courthouse to get the skinny on how to proceed. You have certain consumers' rights. Exercise them. Good luck!

But apparently the truck is now fixed. So no need to go to another shop for that knock wood.
Yes it seems to be fixed . I am actually at work !! Yeah! And my truck is sitting there waiting for me . It did cost me 1700 at the end of the day and I really feel like they did me really dirrty . He tried to tell me they replaced all the injectors and the parts for 8 “oem” injectors is $971 and change … told me that was their cost .. I don’t believe it … and when I said something to him about them NOT notifying me or asking me about replacing the injectors he said and I’m going to try to quote exact here “ya they didn’t tell me either !! “ I sorta looked at him like … what? lol …. Apparently the owner and his lead mechanic in the end after the first 4 weeks were point people on this but I only ever talked to the one guy… then he told me that he didn’t even charge me for the extra head bolts or gaskets cuz he said they tore it down 4 times . !?!?
It does seem to run right but damn ….

Tell him you want the old parts.

See if they can produce them.

Ok so day 3 I thjnk …. Today it popped a code ….po1524 I believe … something to do with the vvt. And I’m thinking it’s the metal shavings floating or being pushed out of hiding and it’s blocking the oil pathway on some components—— maybe that’s not the right way to say it but I’m thinking that’s what’s happening… they didn’t clean the oil galley well enough and some of the old cam lobe is extracting its revenge on me now . It just took a couple days for the pressurized oil to blow it around but now it’s free and it can really screw things up for me I think … am I wrong about this ? Had I known they were going to charge me $1700 over their original estimate —at $6600 I would’ve opted for a new engine … this is a nightmare … I’m sure I have to take it back to them now and I’ll have to fight them to not be charged for them to go in and fix their screw up . Or am I wrong in this ? Of all the codes I think you don’t want to see after doing a cam , a p1524 from what I have read is. “Oil Pressure Out of Range – Camshaft Advance/Retard Disabled.” This code indicates that the engine control module (ECM) has detected that the oil pressure is either too low or too high, which can affect the operation of the variable valve timing (VVT) system. The VVT system requires proper oil pressure to function correctly, and when it’s out of range, it disables camshaft adjustment to prevent engine damage.”

Is the VVT related to the MDS?

Thoughts ? Is my scenario far off ?

Thanks ..

Jim

Go the the appropriate evic screen and see what the oil pressure reading is.

Did they replace the oil pump while in there? Lots of folks who installed a high pressure oil pump have experienced this code, due to high oil pressure.

If it is a few psi too high, may not be a major issue. Once the oil warms up and/or gets a few miles on in, the pressure will drop a little bit. If it is too low, i might worry.

I get 10psi more oil pressure just by running the large diameter OEM oil filter. Sometimes at highway speed it'll hit 70 psi with the big filter on.

As Ken stated if they installed either the hellcat oil pump or the melling high volumn pump, that code will pop up if they didn't reuse your stock bypass spring in the hellcat pump,or the low pressure spring in the melling pump.
If they did swap the oil pump to one of the higher volumn pumps, you can try swapping in a hellcat oil pressure sensor.
Another thing that can also cause that code,is a poor quality oil filter. Before yelling at the shop, try a differant oil filter,if the code still persists then go back and find out what all parts they installed.
There's lots of video's on fixes for that code.

This scenario is the bane of the 5.4Liter 3-valve Ford V-8's, too. After major VVT/Cam/Timing chain/Phaser repairs, the oil pressure tanks. I'm truly sorry for your experience. You trusted that these stooges had the diligence to perform a well thought out diagnostic strategy in the first place, instead of conclusion-biased based shot gunning.

At this point, you are dancing with the devil if you DO return the truck to them for the purpose of them "seeing the light", and, somehow, miraculously fix the truck as they should have done from the very beginning.

Your truck is 11 years old with high mileage. If you had brought it to my shop, the FIRST issue at hand is "Do I TRULY know this vehicle's history in a comprehensive way?

I'm reckoning that a proper pre-repair interrogatory of you (the owner) would have led me to spend a bit more diagnostic time on the issue, instead of aiming the cannon hap-hazardously and throwing a bunch of parts at the engine. IOW, we would have had that "Come-to-Jesus" discussion as to the features, advantages, and benefits of a reman engine UP Front! Things like a 4 year, unlimited mileage warranty on the engine. Overall dollar value for the expense reasoning, too.

48+ Years as a professional Automotive technician has taught me a WHOLE LOT! I've also gotten educated as to how to properly counsel folks on their auto repair needs. There are times when the repair(s) do not get done for mutually beneficial reasons to both myself as a professional ,and them as a member of the consuming community.

You might have to cut your losses with these Katzenjammer kids.

Yikes … so far I’ve got 6600 bucks in this truck +7 weeks of loss work which that’s more than the 6600 actually but I could’ve probably got a crate engine , ac reman or a new one maybe for somewhere around that couldn’t i? I almost have to take it back to them because all my resources are spent . I can’t afford to take it elsewhere. I just really can’t afford to give them my truck again for God knows how long!

I’m really not knowing what to do at this point. So do I drive it for a couple days and see if the 1524 goes away.?

Yup! I think you have come to learn how these new-fangled automotive issues are nothing like in the last century. The DTC is unlikely to fix itself, and you driving around with an oil starved engine will force your hand soon enough, unfortunately, unless the problem is a sender unit; but considering the story narrative here, that ain't likely. Computer controls have the awesome power to get the highest level of efficiency from a driveline, but also to destroy itself as well.

If you have the resources, borrow the money to have the truck fixed correctly elsewhere, or buy another vehicle. Perhaps, take the clowns to court. (I'd do the latter regardless.)

So, what is the oil pressure reading?

Cause it's a big clue, if the reading is low vs if it's high...

On my dashboard gauge then needle is just below the center and not moving . There’s most likely a way to see it using autophix and my Bluetooth code reader but I have not tried yet. I’ll go out on break and see if I can figure it out .

Just take it back, if they refuse to work on it then you have a slam dunk case. Don't do a dam-thing whatever you do, let them do it or refuse at this point. Don't clear the code, don't read the code, just take it back. If they refuse, send a certified letter for request to repair.
