Im strongly considering doing shorty headers instead of long tubes for a few reasons, warranty and cost being 2 of them.

Would there be any advantage to running JBA shorty headers with a custom true dual setup?

Here’s my vision:
- hack apart the stock y pipe after the cats
- 2 1/4 piping from the cats onward to an X crossing somewhere near where the current y pipe crosses
- dual 14” magnaflow mufflers down stream right to the stock tails and resonators

Thoughts?

Truck will have CAI, TB and the long term plan is an unlocked PCM with a tune. I want the stock PCM setup to throw 0 codes for dealer visits

My exhaust is something kinda like this, I had my shop cut on the down pipe, eliminating the y-pipe and mid-pip through up to where the tails split and ran Carven type R bullet mufflers and it sounds like angels to my ears!

I’d like to hear it to.

Can anyone chime in on performance of a system like this vs that of one containing long tubes and a Y pipe setup?

Hunt up Steven Cooper on Alberta Regular Cabs on facebook. He's Saskatoon based, and has long tubes on his nitrous'd R/T,i'm sure he'll take you for a ride, lol.
My 4X4 went from 14.1's with stock manifolds and a expensive custom mandrel bent Y pipe with a canned 93 tune,to 13.40's with JBA headers/catless midpipe and a custom tune at Castrol. I figure the tune was good for about 1/2 the gain, the other half I attribute to the long tubes

Those are NA times,on a 75 shot it runs 12.2's at Castrol and still holds the fastest time slip of a gas powered 4th Gen in Western Canada, although Dans/ Tach Tech's truck should run as fast or faster now that he's got it sorted out.But getting him to a dragstrip is like pulling Hens teeth, just razzing ya Dan,lol.
I think Steves R/T gained around the same amount when he put long tubes and a catless midpipe on his truck. His truck also runs low 12's on a 100 shot at Castrol.

You’re telling me lol. It’s not for a lack of wanting to that’s for sure. I wanted to make it to race wars in vauxhall but didn’t make it.

I was tempted to head to Vauxhall to,but ended up having to work that Saturday. Apparently the track was a bit greasy, nobody was getting any traction, even the 4X4 guys were spinning, lol. Castrol is running Street Legals all day tomorrow,it's a bit of a drive for you though.

Hey Saskwatch, im from Saskatoon. I have a 2015 ram r/t. Stock on 22s i went the best of 14.36@95mph
I then got a custom tune and cut the cats out and went 13.90@97. I then put jba long tube headers on and went 13.45@103 on my 22s. Then i got a header revision on my tune and got some big drag radials and went 13.35@102 with a terrible 60ft. If you wanna see the truck or go for a ride let me know. It will be out of tje body shop this week. I recommend long tubes..

I would also be interested in seeing a comparison on a stock set up. We can all agree that long tubes will make more power and if you’re building on it that is a better choice. But let’s see an apples to apples comparison for the guys that are trying to make an educated purchase with their daily driver that will only ever see a cai

I just did a muffler delete with an xpipe and it is amazing on my 18. I now manually shift @ 2500-3000 rpm sounds like it's a monster but stock lol.

Agreed dyno sheets would be a very nice comparison, as long as the dynos are the same brand. Dynos differ A LOT between brands.

For the amount of work and the costs involved,i highly doubt you're gonna find many back to back comparisions between shorties and long tubes . Maybe 2010 who's seems to be hung up on dyno's will do a back to back comparision for you, lol.
