Hey guys! I am new to the forum and have some questions for you! To start off, i do not currently own a Dodge, as the first truck i purchased, i just needed something i could afford to start me off. I own a 1992 Ford f-150 with 91,000 miles. it also has some goodies such as cold air, headers ect. it has been a decent truck, with its ups and downs. I have a buddy at work who wants to trade his 99' Ram 1500 with 200,000 miles. it has a brand spanking new upgraded transmission, exhaust, and also a cold air intake. He wants an even trade. What are your guys thoughts about this? the only thing holding me back is the original 5.2L 318 with 200k. so now i ask, how many miles can i expect out of this engine? The oil has been changed religiously, and he, like myself is a fellow mechanic, so all the maintenance has been done by himself and done well. Would you guys advise i make this trade? and i am not looking for biased answers ie. "ford sucks" or "Dodge is better". I'm looking for logical reasons on whether i should, or should not make the trade. I'm looking to soon be a part of the dodge community.

Thanks in advance guys!!!

Hmm. Not my cup of tea but how's the body going, any replaced suspension and drivetrain parts. That's a lot of miles, I would just worry about the engine

In my opinion. depends on the condition of both trucks. are they in comparable condition?? why does he want to trade even up?? look to see what both trucks are worth in comparing. do you like the Dodge better than the Ford??

now with that said. if the Dodge is in decent shape and runs fairly well, i would go for it. what engine does the ford have in it??

its all in what you want and are happy with.

My 01 has 193,*** miles on it and it's engine is all original. It's a 5.9 but basically the same motor just different stroke and/or bore. If it runs as good as mine does I'd say go for it!

I dont know man thats quite a bit of miles on the dodge compared to your 91K miles. Have you looked at the KBB value of both? If you like the dodge better then do it but personnly id sell your ford if you dont want it anymore and buy a ram. Going from 91k to 200k miles doesnt seem worth it

The Kelly blue book is about equal. my the conditions are very similar also. but the one thing i hate about MY truck is the tranny. i have little to NO faith in the E4OD transmission. My truck is a 5.0L. my truck has also had a bad past life towing a fifth wheel, and serving as a ranch vehicle before i bought it.

The kelly blue book value is about even and so are the condition of the trucks. his has better paint though. The thing i hate about MY truck is the tranny. i have little to no faith in the E4OD transmission my truck has. My truck has also had a hard past life towing a 5th wheel and serving as a ranch truck. whereas the 200k on his were easy. my truck is a 5.0L 302. both 2wd. both extended cab.

I think you could get a decent price for your '92 Ford and find a used Gen II Ram that doesn't have 200k on it. I don't think the trade is a good idea.
