I tried the big magnet under a buddies case and it held his phone. His phone is a S9, so I had to place the larger plate low on his phone to avoid the wireless charging. It held it, but it was very slightly vibrating while driving. IF your phone doesn't have wireless charging, I'd just place the large plate in the middle back of your phone and you should be fine. Also, I noticed Best Buy has this charger in stock. You pay slightly more at Best Buy over Amazon, but at least you can easily return it if it doesn't work.

I like the one that drops in the business card holder, but I have the split bench so that wouldn't work for me. I don't need to see my phone, ie I'm not using it for nav or anything, but would like a holder of some sort. For now I have just been dropping it in one of the cupholders. Don't really want a vent clip deal so there are limited options.

Good phone holder, but they're banned now. @Limeybastard has a pretty sweet cupholder that I'd bet could double as a phone holder and is hands free.

The one I purchased came with a little plastic sheet you can use between the magnet and your phone if you want. In trying to dodge my wireless charger on the back of my phone, I moved my plate around so much the plastic film lost its grip, so I have the plate mounted directly to the phone (foam mounting tape still though).

I've been using Quad Lock cases and attachment system now for a little over a year and love it. It has a mounting plate that stays in the truck, and the base suctions to it, or a window. So if I'm traveling in a rental, I can still use the base. I also use a base for my road bike when I'm out cycling.

So, I purchased a Note9 which has a new fingerprint scanner gizmo where I had my previous plate mounted. So, I purchased a case (to those asking about a case) and I mounted the medium sized plate OVER the fingerprint scanner on the outside of the case. This made it so that 1) I didn't mess up the scanner, and 2) it gives the plate its full magnetic abilities. Problem solved and it holds my big ass phablet Note9 just fine.
