Side step pad removal

2012 Ram 1500; my truck has the factory tubular side steps. I want to remove the step pads and polish the metal part. Can the pads be removed without being damaged?

They typically are just held on with plastic tabs and theoretically could be gently pried out. However if they are 12 year old original pieces I would suspect them to be rather brittle and "stuck" on. The factory tabs are usually pretty tight. I would be somewhat surprised if you get them off without breaking off any of the tabs.

Mine started cracking after about 8 years , I repaired them permanently with Amp auto steps ,best upgrade i've done .
