Hey everyone. Wanted to get your thoughts on side steps. I have a 2018 quad cab 1500. Looking for side steps that are oval, don’t stick out wider than the truck fenders, and tuck up pretty nicely (in other words, are not low and with a large gap between the rocker panel and the top of the step), and black. Like the look of oval bars that have bent ends (roughly 35-45 degrees and not the 90 degree bends). I also prefer the look of seperate step pads for the front and rear doors. I am indifferent to whether they end at the back door or closer to the rear tire though the latter seems a little more useful.

I have looked for the above through multiple sources and companies, but it is hard to tell how much the steps stick out or how low they are when installed. So pics would be awesome.

One last thing, I noticed most have a weight capacity of 350 pounds. Doesn’t seem like much if two adults step on it at the same time. As with most weight capacities, I am sure the stated weight is lower than listed, but feel free to chime in on weight capacities.

Thanks!

Pitching my rusted N-Fabs and was going to go with 4" oval Raptors ... I have the same concerns with sticking out too far, and hanging too low ... Interested in following this thread

My N-Fabs started to get surface rust about a month of being on my F-150. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Hi jbrown. That was one of the brands I was looking at. Some pics would be great. Do you like the quality of those?

I have the Ionic 5" ovals in SS. They do extend out a bit past the tires and hang down about 5" maybe more or less this by my eyeballin it. Quality is top notch and was easy to install once you figure out the instructions. Seem very sturdy for my 325 lb wt. no flex at all.

I like them. There's absolutely no flex when you step on them and they were easy to install. If I had it to do over again I would look at the iron cross because I like the way they look. I couldn't find a picture of them on a tea when I was buying, but I saw them on a truck here and they look pretty bad ass. I only have one complaint, but I'll save it for the pics.

Thanks jbrown. The pics help a lot. Those look good. Hard to tell if they hang low, but based on the distance from the top of the step to the rocker panel, it looks about as high as it can be.

What was your one complaint? Was it they are much cheaper now?

The power steps are out of my budget. Look nice though.

Haha as I was posting, you posted more pics. Those really helped. They are really tight up against the rocker panel. Looks great! So far, this is the best option I have seen. Thanks!!

Please excuse the dirt, had a fun weekend. The black finish looks pretty good with the black truck I think, but you can't tell with the mud. My only complaint with them is the cheap ass bolts they sent. They rusted over in days. If I were doing the same ones again, I'd take the bag of hardware to West Marine and replace the lot with stainless steel bolts. It ****** me off everytime I walk up to the truck, those rusty bolts staring at me. How much would it cost to include not crappy hardware? I'd gladly have paid another $30 for stainless!IMG_20180906_161942401.jpg

Haha. I don’t blame you about the bolts. Would drive me crazy too. Good tip - I would get different bolts from the get go if I go with these steps. I really like the way they look!

One other thing. I don't have any evidence to support this, but I think these stick out enough to protect from a door ding from a smaller car.

Here is a pic of the 4" Westin platinum on my regular cab. I weigh 300 lbs, no issues. Should be no problem with 350 on the e20180906_164523.jpg 20180906_164542.jpg 20180906_164516.jpg xtended cab.
