What silicone are you guys using to seal up around the rear window? Had it replaced once already, and noticed that it was leaking in the dead center of the window now, no cracks in the frame, I put a new seal on the 3rd brake light and antenna is dry. When I was checking I noticed the window sealant in the middle of the window isn't as thick as the rest, so I'm assuming whoever the dealer had install it, started and stopped at the top of the window instead of the bottom.. but regardless, I don't feel like dealing with it, so I'm just going to run a bead along the top of the window, but unsure what to use. White truck, but I need something uv resistant, I was thinking black, because clear tends to discolor over time. What's everyone's opinion?

Or, DOW BetaSeal U-418 windshield urethane.

This is the bees knees, and what glass replacement companies use to install all permanently affixed automotive glass.

Use gloves... you don't want this on your hands ;)

EDIT ** if you're going to ever have the glass cut out for a complete reseal, use the DOW Beta Glass Primer first and generously (after cutting out the glass and cleaning up as much of the old urethane as possible), then apply the urethane.

I plan on reselling mine with the butyl tape.
Its what's used for RV for vents and such.

I’m not aware of a black version. The idea is to get it down behind the window in the small gap around the edge and behind the dark frit on the edge where it should never show. I plan to tape off the paint and the top edge of the glass to ensure none is exposed to view after its squirted down in the crevice.

Does it come in black? I'm just afraid the clear will yellow over time.
You'll want to tape off the window frame and the paint opposite of the window frame. The Permatex will flow into the space between and you should not be able to see it unless you're specifically looking for it. Here's a pic I shamelessly stole off the web to show the taping I described...

You can use Sikaflex 222 , it's a black urethane sealent . It's messy but amazing . If you take the window out someone said use rv butyl tape . Most of the stuff rv dealers sell is not the best . Ĝet it a a hardware or glass company. However my choice would be dap gutter and flashing sealent . It's a butyl compound in a caulking tube , I removed everything that I could from my rv sealed with this stuff 12 years ago . Out of curiosity I removed a small cover just to see what it was like , mistake , still soft and messy after 12 years , very impressed .

I applied the Permatex flowable silicon to my 23 RAM yesterday. I’ll admit that it’s not as flowable as I was expecting. More like sag-able. And the dispenser tip by the time it was cut back far enough to open the tip was too blunt to get into the crevice so I thinned 2 sides down some with a knife. But I taped things up good including inserting tape in back back and down into the crevice to cover the paint and made 3 passes squirting it back there. Then I used a paper shop towel folded over a popcycle stick to drag along the exposed crevice area to knock it down further and remove excess. After pulling the tape, any small smears cleaned up with window cleaner. Nothing shows so I hope it spread out down in there and sealed where it was seeping water. If not I have another tube.

I have to wait until it gets warmer, but I think I'll go this route. It doesn't leak too bad, but just enough to **** me off. I'll have to tape things off good and hope it works.

I thought it might be, but I checked and it was bone dry, also, when I bought the truck I put a thicker seal on it. Lol I will test it again when it gets a little warmer just to make sure though.

I've used the DAP Ultraclear which is all weather rated and guaranteed not to yellow, and after six years it hasn't on mine.
