I have a 2023 Ram 1500 rebel
Havoc edition.
I bought it brand new about 15 months ago. I own many vehicles so it only has 5K on it.
Today I went to remote start it & it did not. It’s telling me I need to subscribe to use the remote function.
Man that ****** me off.
All my other vehicles do not require any subscription to remote start.
So I’m seeing I have 2 options (or maybe they are tied into just one option?)
Do I subscribe to Uconnect or do I subscribe to Sirius XM to get my remote start back.
I also own 2 Pacifica’s that remote start without any subscription???
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bob

Are you trying to remote start from your key fob or from an app? Key fob should not require a subscription.

Everything is going to "pay-to-play" subscriptions nowdays. The future is to build ALL vehicles to the higher end all options added format, and use a subscription system for ALL added functions. You want the nav, subscribe. You wand the super sterio system, subscribe, etc infinitem.

Your key fob remote start should still work provided it actually has remote start. If you're using your phone via the app then you will need a subscription to use it that way

With my 2024 Ram Rebel the UConnect feature includes SIRRIUS XM.

This question still stands.

We own a newer Pacifica and a newer Ram, both bought new. Neither will remote start via the app after the initial trial period expired. But the key fob always works.

According to the uConnect website, that is only a limited "trial" subscription to Sirrus.
It was. When it expired I opted to continue the plan and pay for it.

The plan gives me a lot of options. Including the ability to start, stop, lock or unlock my truck, and monitor all of the systems via my phone. This included engine, tires, oil usage, etc.

Plus with the APP I can look for Recalls, and check service history on my truck, to make sure it is valid. Make sure RAM has the same info as i do in the paper file.

I have the same on our Durango, and my daughter’s Challenger.

Yeah, that's not uConnect. I was trying to make it clear that Sirrius, at least after trial period, is a separate thing from uConnect. Actually, during the trial period, it's separate too, it just doesn't seem that way.

Yep, that is worth the money to some people.

All of that info is available on the Ram Owner's website too.

I see what you are saying. Yes they are separate functions. But I was able to take care of them both with one call.

Since we had the XM on other vehicles, adding it to the truck was very inexpensive. I initially said no when they gave me the first two prices. Told the rep that I had it streaming on my phone. Would just play that thru the BT to my radio and listen that way. They then came up with some discounts and numbers that ended up costing us less per month for all of the vehicles, than we had initially been paying.

I have my favorite stations saved in the head unit. Hugh variety of genre depending on my mood. I no longer listen to local radio

I know the info is on the RAM website. But like most people I always have my cell phone with me. Just easy for me to tap te APP and look at the data on all of our vehicles at any given time.

All three of our vehicles are from FCA. All of them have remote start on the FOB.

Yes if I were get a mortgage and re-subscribe to uConnect, you can remote start from your smart phone...which I find totally not worth what they want per month for that privilege.

You are correct. My wifes Jeep did the same thing. I even went in to buy the subscription after it ran out and no one can figure out what happened with hers. Uconnect and I spent over 2 hours trouble shooting it. The dealer has exhausted everything they can do to fix it. So it is what it is for me. Her map still works, but we us Waze so it really wouldn’t matter. I do like the radar map. Sirius XM is in all three of ours. The two DD have the subscription and the Camaro I just stream the app and I bought a rear view mirror with a forward and rear facing camera with Uconnect. It is unlocked so I don’t pay for it.

I have a 2017 4WD Big Horn Crew Cab. I can remote start with the fob as long as I’m in range (and a good battery). I also subscribe to Uconnect to get the bells/whistles of unlock/remote start/lock/etc (because, why not). Here’s the kicker. My Uconnect radio has 3G WiFi, which was phased out. The only way to “enjoy” all Uconnect has to offer is to use a TMobile dongle for WiFi. Which baffles me to no end, ‘cause it’s asleep when my truck is off, yet Uconnect works. But I let the “dongle” sub expire one month (because I have unlimited data on my cell) and Uconnect quit working. When I called, I was told you need the WiFi dongle for Uconnect to work, even though I have no intention to use it for WiFi, and it’s asleep when truck is off .
Short answer, as has been answered in the threads, remote start from fob needs no subscription. You need sub if you wanna use your phone to remote start (and even then, you’re at the mercy of the server, as I’ve found out ).
As for XM, I had a sub to an XM radio mobile receiver that I had in my old Ram (actually, at that time Dodge, ‘cause it was a 2500 w/Cummins diesel and 6-speed manual tranny, self-installed Banks exhaust brake). When I sold that (cried) and bought my ‘17, just transferred subscription to my “new” truck’s radio. That has nothing to do with remote start, just SiriusXM radio stations.
