Just picked up 2011 1500 4x4 with 5.7. After several days I have noticed a slight whining noise which seems from rear of truck at around 45 to 50 mph. Doesent get any louder and general gets quieter as speed increases. As soon as you let off gas pedal it goes away or deadens. Took to reputable dealer where purchased and said it was tire noise and is fine. Love truck and only with 52k hoping it's nothing else. I've had bearing issues and rear end issuses on other trucks and don't sound the same so I'm taking there word on it I guess. Any insights greatly appreciated

Winning noise? Like a crowd cheering or a checkered flag waving? :naughty:

it's not tire noise if it goes away when you let off. Tire noise is directly related to speed, not applied torque through the rear axle. I've had bad u-joints do similar but there was an accompanying vibration with the noise when engine braking all 3 times.

Have your rear end checked again. My 2010 did this and it needed a whole new axle.

How's the fluid condition? Does it smell burnt?

From what you described, it's definitely not tire noise but a rear end issue.

Vibration and Noise from Rear of my 2003 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 2WD (hemi)

For a few weeks I've notice a vibration and booming coming from the rear of my truck, it happens around 45 mph and higher and when accelerating quickly... It's a hemi baby!! Anyway, after having tires rotated, still happening, keep truck maintained to an "extreme" so I stopped by my local reputable auto/truck repair shop and it was the rear U-joint... had them do both, with 135,000 mile I figured it makes since to not cut corners... Ironically I had the rear U-joint replaced 8 years ago, it failed along with the OEM that came with the truck... Owned this truck since new and I plan to keep it forever!
Just wanted other to know why this "fix" was... remember my truck is 2WD, so it might not be the same situation for those of you that have 4WD.

Hoping although this is an old post someone has more info. I have the same symptoms: whining noise under acceleration at 50mph or so.
Recently had rea end rebuilt, defective bearings, diff fluid is brand new. Any insight would be appreciated. Vehicle is 2013 ram 1500 express with 4 wheel drive.
