Best options for steering shaft replacement on 89 W-150?
I just bought it, has been sitting for almost 10 years. I have a lot of slop in steering wheel. When shaking the shaft, under hood, the play seems to be in the steering column above the rag joint. Do I need to replace the steering column or the shaft?
Thanks.

Can probably put some bearings in the column. Is it tilt? If so, it's actually a GM column and may be easier to get parts for.

Wow I didn't know the tilts were GM columns .. Amazing how the MFG's did swap in & out a lot of parts .
I was going to say go to wrecking yard & Just find a replacement tilt column & swap it in place.
I Found a Dodge Ram Charger 87 & swapped that column into my 1988 D250 gas Western Hauler flat bed. . I sure like the tilt.

Thanks for the replies! It is tilt. I am a big guy so there is not a lot of room in between me and the wheel...LOL! I didn't realize that the tilt columns were GM....will look into bearing replacement. Thanks again!

PaPitt, I will do my best to post some pics, once it stops snowing in Northern Minnesota, and I can get out there and wrench on it!

look into mopar part numbers : 2265656 and 2925491. that was the column bearing and isolator part number for my 78 d100 column. it also is supposed to work on 84-90 model years.
