Hi

Not sure I got a proper spare when I purchased my truck.

I got an extra 5 spoke rim with the truck, can it be mounted under the truck as a spare or do I need a basic metal rim?

Thanks

From what I understand is that an aluminum wheel like you have pictured will not work due to the smaller center hole. The rectangular piece that is attached to the crank up/down cable is too big for the hole. And by looking at that I would say it will not work for the spare. Maybe climb under the truck and measure that piece to confirm.

This exactly, unless you relocate your spare to the bed. You would have to severely carve down the retaining plate and that would compromise its strength in addition to destroying that rim.

Thanks

When I tried mounting the tire I noticed that the retaining plate was too large for the opening.

I figured there was a trick involved.

I guess there’s no trick and I need to get a plain steel rim.

Yeah, the center register hole on the steel wheel is big enough, but on the aluminum rim that's recessed behind the center cap.

What I would like to know is can a Good Tire be put on the rim that come with the cheap Spare Temporary Tire? I pull a 5th wheel camper with my 2019 1500 Ram and don't trust that tire if I have to use it on the rear

You're in the wrong section, 3rd gens (02-08) got full size spares. If it isn't at least a 17x8 or so then not really. 3rd gens with 20's came with a 20x8 steel spare with a full size tire.
