I had my new tires & wheels put on today. I went with 35 Toyo RT & 18 Fuel “Blitz” wheel. Thought I’d share how it turned out. I have one question about the spare tire. Since it’s too big to fit underneath now. Any suggestions on how best to secure it? I haven’t had a chance to try it for myself underneath. Is there anyway to mod it? What do the 35+ runners, do with yours? Thanks in advance [emoji4]3bbaff9c0c576427988247a7c203abe6.jpg

Truck looks great!

I have seen 35” toyo at’s fit in the stock location, but it had to be aired down a bit. Not such a big deal if you have onboard air. I would give that a try... although you may scrape up your wheel using the factory hanger setup, not sure.

Thank you! That’s great news & yes it helps a lot. I was too busy contemplating having to wrestle the damn tire in the bed. Every time I loaded hay or ANYTHING. Dreading that so much. I missed the easy obvious solution!! Lol. Next goal: onboard air & snow chains. [emoji106]

Now I’m wondering if I should keep my stock wheels or sell them? Does anyone know what the going price is? It’s a 2017. As always I appreciate all thoughts & suggestions. From those more knowledgeable than I . Thank you in advance. [emoji4]

I swapped one of my stock wheels to the "spare" wheel because of weight. The oem steel spare is heavy! As for sellling the wheels, without tires, I usually see about $90-$110+shipping (when I sold my wheels they were in the $30-$45 range depending on where).

Snow chains aren't just for "snow". Good to have for mud too. Can't winch the PW out on sagebrush. The frozen dirt roads around here turn to snot come Spring.

Good information, thank you. I went up a size to 18 wheel. So my old wheels won’t work at all with new tires. The tire shop swapped out my old spare wheel for a used 18 they had. So I’m good there. Thanks for the suggestion. [emoji4]

You are right! I should have said “tire chains”. I have a good set for my 285’s. I just have to let my wallet recover a bit. From tires & wheel purchase. To order the new ones. Sounds like you might be in Wyo. It gets muddy in Az too, monsoon season. But nothing like I experienced in Wyo. pure slippery snot.. lol I mostly use my chains for Snow where I’m at. Thanks [emoji4]

Buy a used, worn down 35 12.50R17 for a spare or drive 1,000 of miles on a rotated set of 5 new Ridge Grappler tires. Then try putting them up into the spare location when they've all worn down just a bit. Your Ridge Grappler tires are 34.8". Once you've worn off around 5/32" to 6/32" of tread depth they should all fit tight into the spare location tight. From what read on this forum at around 34.4" to 34.6" tires will fit fully inflated. My 34.1" when new tires fit up there quite easily.

Well, you could mount one on your trailer hitch. Check out the ultraswing hitch carrier from RIGd.

Hmmm that’s an idea. Kinda cool. But I’d rather put money into onboard air, I think. Tucked away in my Rambox. But thanks for the idea! Appreciate it [emoji4]

I guess it’s one of the live & learn lessons. I just yesterday went with the Toyo Rt. 5 brand new ones. I haven’t had a chance to try it underneath myself yet. Hopefully the same theory with the Grapplers will apply to the Toyos too. Just have to try it & see. But at least I have hope now... thanks! [emoji4]

Yes, I drive into Wyoming a lot. Been up to the frame rails stuck out within the Red Desert on the way to Flaming George (Gorge) Reservoir in a GMC 4x4. Got it free with shoveling. No one is within 50 miles around out there to rescue you.

I hate bentonite mud. It sticks to the drilling rig bits and quite firmly to tires making it difficult to throw. Tire chains work.

I have fuel rims but have been wanting there blitz wheels bad. I honestly think they look the best. What is your offset on the wheels and how far out do they stick? Your running what 35/12.50R17 ?

This brings up something I’ve been concerned about as I contemplate tire upgrades. Tire chains and clearance. I’m not hearing any concerns in this thread so is it a safe assumption that 35’s will clear front chains?

I have run tire chains on both front and rear on a Chevrolet K1500 4x4 during a vehicle recovery of our GMC Jimmy 4x4 which got buried in snow drifts on a dirt road at the I-80 summit outside of Laramie, Wyoming. Our Jimmy also had all four tires chained up, but got stuck up onto its frame. Both vehicles were running stock sized tires. Otherwise, due to the reduced clearance up front at full steering lock with 35" tires, tire chains should go on the rear tires.

Here's from the experts...

You are so wise, Grand Mesa. And exactly on point, as usual. I haven’t had a chance to check the above link yet. But I will ASAP. I’m wondering about the clearance myself. (I should maybe start a different thread for this...but.) The reason I’m wondering about clearance is I’m experiencing rub from my front tires now when I turn r/l. These are my exact specs:

Toyo Open Country R/T BW E (10ply)
LT35/12.5018 123Q

Fuel Blitz Bronze 18x9 80N6.5-12

I had been under the impression size 35 tires wouldn’t require a mod of any kind. How can I fix this so it doesn’t rub? And send my cringe[emoji37] factor through the roof every time I hear that horrible grinding sound! Lol

As it is now... there is no way a set of chains would fit.

Thank you in advance! [emoji4]
