So, on my third starter since the new year. Here’s the issue. Turn the key and the starter spins. But, it didn’t engage the armature. It spins for a few seconds and then kicks the armature out slowly. The t he truck starts after a couple more seconds. Cleaned the connections tested the starter off the truck by hillbilly engineering some wires to a battery. Seems to be fine out of the truck. When the oe starter went bad it did smoke. The second starter worked fine until it didn’t work at all. That one bench tested fine. The main battery cable appears to be in good shape. The little wire on the starter did melt the end cover off. But it still connects to the post. Help I don’t know what to do. I gotta get this figured out. Thinking maybe the small wire is maybe broke down the line somewhere?

Replaced the cable lug at the starter. Looked to be a bad connection. Issue still there....

The thinner positive cable may have a fusible link downstream that's fried.

TIPM likely burning it out, replace TIPM or rewire starter off useless fuse like cig lighter and bypass it. Would not be the first time this has happened here.

So I’ve had this issue when I turn the key I get a hard loud click at the solenoid but no turn. After about 5 tries it starts. I replaced the battery, alternator and starter. Now it’s doing it again. Possibly a crap starter?

Check the ground cable and engine to frame grounds. Juice comes from the battery but it also has to have a path back to make a circuit.
