I have a 4th gen 2016 Ram 1500 Express with the stock steering wheel it came with. I’d like to swap it out with a 2019 new style steering wheel. I attached representative photos of both styles. The one I currently have, has the smaller gap at the 6 o’clock position . Has anyone tried this? Is this possible as far as compatibility goes (spindle, wiring, etc)? I’m sure I’d have to get the new style airbag as well.

This will work yes. The ram spindle works from 1995-2024 its the same the buttons may be a bit different I lf I remember correctly the shifter buttons won't work but all other buttons should work. I think the circled buttons would be your shift buttons.
When I was testing all the buttons worked except the shift button on bottom right but that was it. I modified a 5th Gen limited steering wheel for paddle shifters for a customer when I discovered this.

Thank you for the response. One question, is the wiring connectors all the same or do I need to get an aftermarket wiring kit?

The wiring was the same on mine. That I can't guarantee will be the same for you it should be a white connector that goes into the clock spring though.
